I know it is stupid but I don't care.  "All My Children" ended today, and I'm sad about that.  Forty one years of TV history; 41 years of my life from junior high school to middled aged lady.

I know that life brings about changes, but lately, it seems that in my own life, change means loss.  There has been just so much loss.  Even a silly, simple pleasure like a soap opera has been lost to me.

So much of our emotional and psychological energy is take up in just trying to survive, just trying to cope with the huge obstacles.  Usually I don't sweat the small stuff.  CKD helps me put things into their proper perspective, but at the same time, it means that the proverbial camel's back is particularly fragile.

I don't ask for much, and I expect even less, but a loss is a loss, and today I feel very sad.

Even though I did not watch the soaps, I understand.

That was one of the Better Soaps in my opinion. I use to tape it on the ole "VCR" and would watch it when I got home from work.  VCR broke and so did the recording of All MY Children.  Honestly, Susan L. has got to be one of the most Beautiful Women in TV.  I know she has probably had surgery's to obtain it, but I have always loved her strength.  She was "fisty & sassy & dont mess with me or mine attitude" is really what drew me to watch AMC for so many years.

I felt sad when they took "Little House on the Prarie" off.  Every episode of that series touched every emotion this gal has.  I know that every show made me cry.  Something sad would happen & I would feel my tears coming down. Michael Landon was very much like the man he played in that show (Charles).  When he died, it was very upsetting to me.  He died so young and unexpectedly, if I recall correctly.

The thing is MM, it is very sad, cause there will never be another to replace it!

Sorry for the loss! :'(   :'(   :'(

Change is not always a good thing!  I didn't watch soaps, but I surely understand the dismay that comes with the end of a series, even if all mine have been in book form.

A toast to Ms. Lucci, everyone!   :beer1;

There was a time when I was living in London, and I would bring my son to visit my parents for the summer.  My dad had retired, and he would record the show, and then in the evenings, he, my mom, my son and I would sit down to watch it together.  You all know that my son is autistic, but he would watch the characters and would ask questions about them, and I used the show to teach him about emotions and feelings and how people look when they are feeling sad or happy or frightened.  Even now, at 20 years old, he remembers Erica and Bianca.  Those were happy times.  Now, my parents are dead and my son is still in England and I am in Chicago, and that small link between us is gone.  So, it's really what the show represented, I guess...

I was watching the Fox News GOP debate last night; I've been watching all of the GOP debates because I think it is important to listen to all points of view.  But at each debate, there always seems to be one moment when meanness comes waving in from the audience.  Last night, audience members booed a gay soldier.  And the time before, some applauded letting people die if they don't have insurance.  And the time before that, there was applause when it was pointed out that Texas leads all states in executions.  It just feels like our country has grown so harsh and so nasty, and I could go on and on about the really nasty things that are going on in my life, but let's just say that being able to sit down and be distracted by my show for an hour a day was a real reprieve that I will miss.  Losing that show just comes at a very bad time for me.

Thank goodness I have IHD for whining purposes.

I've not watched a lot in recent years, but did catch the occasional episode.  I remember in my Washington State University days a group of us (around a hundred) blocked out our class schedules so that we could gather in the Student Union Building to watch AMC! I was one of 'em! I did the same thing eight years later while pursuing my masters degree. What fun!

I always liked Erica Kane.. I think it's because we share a first name.. *G*

My mom tells me that when I was little, people would ask what they named me, and when she told them, they'd ask if I was named after Erica Kane.  I wasn't.  I was named after Bill Cosby's eldest daughter. When she told them that, they always gave her a weird look.

Well, I think you should just lie through your teeth and tell people you were named after Erika Kane! :P

I think a lot of Erica's back then were named after Erica Kane.. I'm just not one of them. *L*  My dad named me.  He's the one who started calling me Riki.  He actually calls me Riki Lee... I think there's a singer with that name, but I'm not sure

The end of a series is so biter sweet. I'm looking forward to the last book of wheel of time, but I am so disapointed because there will never be another.
