Cigarettes are an addiction and it's not easy to give them up.
I don't smoke and it bothers me because I have a bit of asthma....but I understand, though....
The right to breath clean air supersedes any right to smoke and dirty that air for others. So it would be smokers disrespecting the public, not the public disrespecting smokers IMO.

I quit smoking when I was diagnosed with kidney failure in July last year. It hasn't been easy and every day I have cravings. It's worse when I can smell cigarette smoke coz it makes me hungry for some. I would never subject anyone else to it but at the end of the day it's personal choice as Sluff says. For me, each day is a battle to resist lighting up. I use the money I save from not smoking to buy myself something nice each month and tell myself "If I was smoking, I wouldn't be able to afford this."
