Hello to everyone here.  Recently my wife of 30 years was diagnosed as having kidney disease and is beginning stage four.  I am hoping to find out as much as I can, both from those going through it as well as supporters so I can be supportive.  I have read a little and I am grateful for those for taking the time to share.  I think I am beginning to understand the forum's title.

You come from an area with a very short waiting time for a kidney. When your wife GFR reaches 20%, she can start transplant evaluation as soon as possible. With a luck, she may be able to get a kidney before starting dialysis.

Welcome ZM. I see you are from Louisville. My husband went to Uof L, and we lived there briefly (14mths) in l995. Beautiful city there!  GO CARDS!!!!!!

You will learn alot from this site. More so probably than the Professionals, SERIOUSLY!!! Hopefully she can get a transplant, but if not, check into all her options and be proactive.  This is not fun for her nor you, but she will need you now more than ever.

Please come here often and ask anything you like.  They have a place for Caregivers input too. Lots of good stuff to help you along!

You and her are in my prayers! :pray;

Hello ZMurphy and welcome to IHD.  My roots go back to Kentucky.  My Grandmother's blah blah blah....  But now I live in WA State.

Your wife is very lucky to have a man that doesn't bury his head in the sand and is motivated enough to dig in and learn about her disease.  Don't let her bury her head though.  She needs to learn about it too.  Don't spoon feed her.

You picked the right site.

Yep, you've landed in the right place for information and support!

My husband is from Lulville. (funny, I posted this earlier, but with the difficulties the site was having, it didn't come through!)

Anyway.... :welcomesign;
