My dear daughter

Tonight I dropped a chair on my foot and the toenail on my second toe was ripped completely off.  I did the usual first aid thing to stop the bleeding and cleaned an bandaged my toe.   I didn't go to the ER, because it was stable.  Is this something I need to follow up with a doctor for? 

I feel like I could take care of it myself, and I am almost a year post transplant.

I have had this happen a few times since my transplant and I did not go to the ER. I told my transplant doctors, but what I did, same as you was fine. I used neosporine also. If in doubt, always call your center.

Neuropathy in legs age 10

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Diagnosed with ESRD June 29, 1999
1st Dialysis - July 4, 1999
Last Dialysis - December 2, 2000

Kidney and Pancreas Transplant - December 3, 2000

Cataract Surgery on good eye - June 24, 2009
Knee Surgery 2010
2011/2012 in process of getting a guide dog
Guide Dog Training begins July 2, 2012 in NY
Guide Dog by end of July 2012
Next eye surgery late 2012 or 2013 if I feel like it
Home with Guide dog - July 27, 2012
Knee Surgery #2 - Oct 15, 2012
Eye Surgery - Nov 2012
Lifes Adventures -  Priceless

If you are a diabetic you should go to your doctor as soon as possible.

I also used 3 X 3 sterile Gauze pads to wrap the whole to to ease pain from any bumps or rubbing from shoe

I called the transplant center this morning and the agreed with you Chris.  I've been cleaning it with neosporin and coving it with gauze and wearing socks.  It actually doesn't even hurt that much. 

I'm not a diabetic, so they said just call back if I have any problems.

Chris - you're not a diabetic any more right?

Well after 30 years of diabetes, you do learn a thing or too on when to or not to go to the doctor and for me it's not worth a doctors visit. That said, I do know what signs to watchout for. If he was talking to me, Thanks Mom!  :sarcasm; :rofl;

So sorry to hear this!  ouch!   I guess I would just watch for signs of infection.  Also, tell your post transplant doctor.  If you're on Cellcept he/she may want to take you off of it until you have healed.  Cellcept can slow down healing.  I was taken off mine for a few months when I was going through my surgeries for the lymphocele.  Good Luck!
