I know this is going to sound stupid, but I am retaining water, not in my ankles or hands, but under my eyes, ( puffy bags) and in my mid section ( oh, sure!!) I am not on D yet, still in 4th stage, but I wonder why I am retaining it like this, rather than the normal way. Any inout??

If memorty serves me (HA!  thats not a good thing to base much on) hubby did more swelling in face and belly 'pre' D.  Now, he swells in legs which i ***think*** is safer.  There was a girl in center that would come in and hardly be recognizable by the size of her face and midsection.  I think it can settle anywhere.  It did in a really odd place once in hubby.....but i wont speak of it..teehee

I think 3 pounds equals 1 liter....

Thats a good question, but I have no idea. Maybe some one else would know.
1 liter, huh? I will have to research this. From looking at the scale one a daily basis, it appears I would need one at least every 3 days. A water pill, I mean.

A liter is one kilogram, provided its density is like water.

I've been told you can retain water anywhere though a puffy face is certainly a sure sign. The most unusual place for me was when I went to my Doc with what I thought was a cold (I had a slight but lasting cough) and he checked and said I had fluid at the bottom of my lungs.
So I upp'ed the fluid off take (reduced my dry weight) and it went away.
Another nurse told me I carried a lot on my shoulders. I guess what I'm trying to say it doesn't necessarily accumulate on your ankles, mine have usually been OK.

Lasix (brand name) and furosemide (generic) are the same medication and, as boswife and billybags said, the fluid finds the most interesting and sometimes unfortunate places to emerge.

3.5 lbs = 1.6 kg (roughly), which is the same as 1.6 liters - certainly a significant amount.

There is a Zach question in this thread regarding the use of diuretics when one doesn't pee. The obvious answer is that diuretics would be useless in this circumstance. But, I have frequently wondered if perhaps diuretics moved the fluid out of the cells/intracellular space and into the bloodstream to make the fluid more readily removed by dialysis. Zach (and anyone else, too) what do you think?

to help with the under eyes, do the trusty cold cucumbers, cold metal sppon, or cold compress thing. Fluid can build up anywhere. Under your eye is some space and it's easy to build there oddly enough. I'l bet people build there but don't realize it because they are concerend more if their feet are swollen. Of course if you're reating, watch your sodium!
