car insurance and medicare

Does anyone here get charged more for insurance just because you have medicare? I live in Michigan and they tell me because I have Medicare and Medicad that i Have to pay more for car insurance because the government funded insurances like Medicare and Medicad dont cover car crashes. I have PLPD/NO fault. I cant believe that. I dont think a hospital will kick me out if i get into a car crash because i Have Medicare, and what do they care when the hospital bill is not coming out of their pocket when I have no coverage for it in the first place with them?

I moved from the inner city of Detroit, and was told that my insurance would go down once i moved out of Detroit. Now i was going to renew my insurance, and it went from $90 a month and now they want to charge me, now that i moved, to the suburbs, $102. i know it is not much but are you serious? i have to pay more now that i live in a nicer neighborhood.!

And to top it off i dont have any accidents or tickets! GRRRR and i have a 13 year old family sedan.

What do you pay for insurance??

Just shop around to see anyone to give you a better deal with the same cover. There is a medical cover from the auto insurance. For most people with health insurances, it is waste of money for the medical part. if Medicare and Medicaid do not pay the medical bill, it makes sense to have medical cover in the auto insurance. However, the medical cover is very limited. If one gets into a major accident, a $15000 cover means very little.

I don't think my insurance company ever even asked about my medical coverage.  Plus, wouldn't that mean they should charge more for drivers old enough for regular medicare, when in reality, they usually charge less?

yeah my 68 year old pays more and he was told because he has Medicare

Sounds fishy to me. Are you going to a local insurance company that represents a major company? If so, call the main company to get a quote or ask questions. I never been asked if I was on Medicare or Medicaid and both covered my hospital when I was hit. Of course I live in a different state also, the one with corrupt governors.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought medical insurance would refuse to pay for injuries until car insurance paid their share?  I have only been in minor accidents, and have only made chiropractic/massage claims, and once went to the dr afterwards.  I was always told to NOT go through my medical insurance on those visits, and to strictly go through car insurance only.  When I was not the one at fault, my car insurance paid all medical claims, and then went after the one who caused the accident to get reimbursed.  I live in WA, so maybe that's just here?

But yes, crazy that your car insurance is billing more for Medicare.

Yes Karen, they take the auto insurance information to bill them, but always want your insurance to make sur they get paid if denied by auto insurance. In a case where the other driver has no insurance, they billed my Medicaid/ Medicare because I did not call my insurance yet,

Ah, here in WA, it's done differently.  My car insurance will pay for any injuries I sustain in an accident, regardless of who is at fault.  If I am not at fault, then they will go after the other person's insurance company for reimbursement, or will go after the individual.  But, bottom line, my car insurance (and anyone's car insurance in this state) will pay for anyone injured in the vehicle and one's own personal medical insurance will NOT be billed.  That has been my experience, anyway.  Whenever I've been treated for a car accident, they did not take my medical insurance info.

Karen, it is the same, but when taken to the hospital health insurance is billed first until the auto insurance gets involved. This is when the other person does not have insurance, but when someone does have insurance, their insurance is billed first.
