Hello all! I am a thirty-five year old married mom from Missouri. We have two wonderful children ages ten and five. I found out that I have PKD when I was pregnant with our oldest child. I am currently pre-dialysis -my function is decreasing.  I am in the process of losing weight so I will be able to be put on the list for a transplant.

I am not completely new to the world of dialysis and transplants since my father went through both while I was living at home. I have a good idea of some of the crappy days ahead, but my hubby is new to all of this and seems to have a hard time dealing with all of this.

I was so excited to find this site. It is nice to find a board to chat with others who understand the things I'm dealing with.  I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Hi, Andrea,

PKD family here, too. My husband and his sister both discovered they have it when their father was diagnosed about 20 years ago. Our daughter was diagnosed when she was tested to see if she could donate to her dad. The cysts affect her liver, too.  :'(

My husband's function remained steady for a long time before he had to start dialysis. I hope the same is true for you.  :pray;

Welcome to IHD!

Hello Hippiemama,  Welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  There are people on this board predialysis like you and every stage in-between.  You will fit right in.  I'm not sure when you father was on dialysis but it has changed a lot in 20 years.  Yes, still crappy days though..... unfortunately.  We will be here for you on those days.  Let's hope they are few and far between.  We are still here for you on good  days, so check in often.

Hiya!  I'm predialysis, too, so I well understand the stress of just waiting for your kidneys to fail and not being able to do too much about it.  Not fun.  In fact, it's pretty horrible.  But when you are feeling horrible about it all, that's where we come in; you can come to us for support at anytime because believe me, we do understand.

Good luck with your efforts to get on the transplant list!

Welcome, Andrea!  :welcomesign;  We look forward to getting to know you as well.  I'm sure you have lots of questions being pre-dialysis (like me) so ask away!  We have a pre-dialysis section as well if you're interested.
