if you tend to travel make sure that there is a center in the location
you plan to be at
my family several yrs back was planing to go to a funeral which we did to eastern oregon
we had wanted to set up in klamath falls
the secatrary at dialyis had called which to find out the center only provided for the klamath falls patiens and no drop ins
but we were told we could go to medford.
we decided that we would come back sunday eve instead
for my mom didnt want to drive to medford which i can understand.

so you may want to make plans ahead and make sure there is a center available

I hear you!  I have a vacation planned to Rapid City, South Dakota in July.  I am on T/Th/Sat schedule and need to fly out on Thursday and return on Monday.  I've found *the* center in Rapid City (they only have one) and they have 31 chairs, at least they did when the article was written about their opening in 2005.  They specifically said that they kept extra chairs for tourists as they are near Mount Rushmore, Black Hills etc. and a big tourism area.

I am wondering how early I need to inform my social worker to start making plans?  I have several people starting the testing for transplant but don't know where I will be in the process by late July.  Should I tell her now, in a couple of months or....?  And should I dialyze on Friday, skip Saturday or skip Thursday go Saturday?  FWIW, I still have quite a bit of urine output (I go several times per day) and never feel 'wet' between treatments.

if your wanting to make plans in july it might be a good idea and talk to the center now so that way not only you but them will be prepard
about skipping the days i would talk to your doc or the nurse
many patents still have urine output including me

I had the same experience..... I have a house in Vancouver , Wa and a house at the beach....  I wanted to dialysis at the beach but could ntver get in and I tried for months....tried to get a spot even a year away....they just said no.....   Thats why I went to using Nxstage.....  take the machine with me and just go....either to the beach or RV , or camping or what ever....much easier.....

Of course, you have to make plans ahead of time to go to another center. Drop ins are not liked at any clinic.  It would be like showing up at your work and wanting something immediately that is not available at that time. Check with your center social worker when you want to travel.  I have traveled up to an hour when on vacation to go to dialysis.

Our center requests a minimum of two weeks. We usually give a month's notice and the unit arranges everything.

With a Tu, Th, Sa schedule and a flight out on Thursday, we would shift our dialysis to M, W instead of Tu, Th and fly out on Thursday then dialyze in Rapid City on Saturday, fly home on Monday and dialyze in your home unit on Tuesday - no sessions skipped and no gap more than two days.

We had a hard time a couple times even with fair warning but never went anywhere because of the hassles.  Like Tyfly, we went with NxStage, and problem solved! We can go anywhere we want at anytime!  IT IS GREAT TO HAVE THAT FREEDOM!!!!

i have family in corvallis oregon. there is a small center in town that has been full for several years. the next closest one is about 15-30 minutes away. when i first started using the albany center they were only open m-w-f and always had room. this last trip (april 2011) they too were full. operating 3 shifts 6 days a week. i had to use the center in west salem, 50 miles and and hour away. they too are new and only open m-w-f. we'll see how long that one lasts.

all the centers that i know of are open m/w/f
unless its a holiday or something and then they would change the days

the center i go to is north liberty
and they have 3 shifts
but thrusday they close early and sat they close early so there isent a 3rd shift unless
something comes up

like resently they  did some remodling at the north center
so we had to dialyis on sunday at the south center
and we had monday and tues off
that was a bit confusing
the south center is huge and you can deffently get lost in there
