Hi....my name is Wifedonor.  I have tried to post several times ....and even sent an empty post. Sorry about that.  Anyway, I am exactly as my name says.....a kidney donor to my husband.  Yes.....I have many roles:  wife, health advocate, nurse....etc.  He is scheduled for his kidney transplant for 1/02/07.  So we are having an interesting way to start off the new year for sure.  My husband was diagnosed with FSGS when he was 18....he was trying to take the physical exam for the military.  That was almost 20 years ago.  He is 37 and I am 33.  Of course he didn't pass due to the amount of protein in his urine.  That's when it all began.  From there he had a biopsy and the FSGS was discovered.  Since then he was been to a couple of doctors and on many medications.  Yet, I believe it wasn't until about Aug. 206 that he became he an "advocate" in a sense of not being in denial and afraid to the point of not "really" asking questions and just going along with the routine of the dr. visits or labs and stuff.  Oops, I forgot to mention that we met 1/17/03 at church.  We were engaged by July and married on 3/27/04.  Yes...it was a world wind....and it hasn't been boring at all.

Right now my husband has about 13% or so kidney function.  This whole process has been stressful from many aspects.  Everyday that we get closer to the surgery I find that I feel more overwhelmed.  Even though he has six other siblings.....none of them have much of a relationship with each other....that is sad.....so I was the only one tested.....and amazingly enough we were a match.  Although race doesn't matter people are amazed that we were a suitable match even though we differ in this regard.   Although the health professionals mentioned dialysis was an option my husband didn't even want to do dialysis at any point.  Of course we both did research and decided that the transplant would be the next best step.  He has been on the transplant list with our local hospital....but no call as of yet.  I believe that the only reason we are nearly as strong is because of our faith and the prayers of others.  So this journey continues to get more exciting as the days go by....

This is a great site...and I am glad that I was accepted to join.  Of course I don't know how much I will post between now and the next few days....but know that I have learned so much from all of you.

Talk about an excellent introduction. I too have been diagnosed FSGS so I know everything your husband has been through. I've always said my kidney disease is not what has made me sick, it has been the medicine reactions that cause my symptoms of disease which others don't understand. So with that said I thank you for being a good wife, donor, friend, and caretaker to your husband.

I hope you find all the information that you need here and I hope you join the chatroom once in awhile.

I'm also happy that you have your faith, it will carry you through any difficult times, but remember we are here for you as well.

I wish you the best, and I would appreciate it if you post your story after the transplants, you know the specifics and the details of the surgery. My wife and I are the same blood type, but I never let her go get tested further, because I want her to save her kidney in case our son ever needs it GOD FORBID. Welcome to the site and Godspeed.

  Wifedonor! I was diagnosed with FSGS in 1990 and just had a transplant on Dec 5, 2006! My sister was my donor, and we are both doing great! All the best to both of you...you are an angel to do this for your husband.
