Hi, I'm Russell England (Russ)

I set up Global Dialysis with my wife Val back in 2000. She was on haemodialysis for 25 years with a couple of breaks for transplants. I set up the website because we found it difficult to find places to dialyse for holidays. I'm a bit of a techy so set it up as a public service originally and a bit of a hobby. She loved life and lived it to the full - many people were surprised she was on dialysis - she passed away in 2001.

(I've attached a piccy of Val and myself from around 1990 - you'll be pleased to hear I've since lost the dead ferret under my nose)

I'm not on dialysis myself but tried to keep the Global Dialysis website going. I've let it slip a couple of times during my dark periods   I've had a couple of breakdowns since with visits to the local nuthouse. 

The website has had a bit of a revival recently with a lot of help from a lovely business colleague called Katy. She was a renal nurse but now runs a medical marketing company. So the future of Global Dialysis is ensured, just in case I go nuts again

I'm originally from the City of Birmingham, UK. Technically the biggest city in the UK, the "City of London" is actually quite small with a population of around 3000. Birmingham is very much an industrial city - 25% of the UK exports are made in Birmingham. The very first steam train in the USA was made here

I now live in a little place called Bewdley, Worcestershire. Although it does have connections with Birmingham and The Black Country (so called because of all the soot covered buildings during the industrial revolution). Bewdley is on the River Severn, the longest river in the UK. It was the highest place up river where it was shallow enough to walk across. So many goods were carried across here and it was a little port for a while, carrying goods from the Black Country down the river to Bristol and farther afield - until the canals, railways and bridges were built.

In my madness I also signed up for the Mongol Rally 2011 - this involves driving a totally inappropriate vehicle from England to Mongolia via any route. There are no prizes for first place, just a congratulations for making it!

This is the most wonderfull place to come to.

I have a complete list of all the dialysis units spread out over the whole of South Africa- so.... if you are interested you can send me a pm.

I think what you are doing is wonderfull!!!!!!


ps I am sorry to here about your wife and all the difficult times that you have gone through .. there is light at the end of the tunnel (it is not an oncoming train)

Keep us posted on all the units across the world. YOu must add a link to the Global dialysis site so that we can check it out.

I am sorry about the loss of your wife. I admire you for keeping up withdialysis related issues.
I remember Global Dialysis back when Brumley ran it, I think? I had posted there before finding IHD. I should go back and check it out again. I recall that Bill Peckham had an article about travel there, and it's been a good site for other members looking to travel.

Hello fellow Englander! I have loads of trouble when I travel abroad "Whats your name?" "England" "no... whats your name?" "England" ...

I'm hoping to travel the southern route - down to Turkey, through Iran, all the "Stans", briefly into Russia then across Mongolia. I've been applying for 3 years... Then applied to be a marshal at the Festival of Slow this year and got a guaranteed place for next year

No, I set up Global Dialysis - its independent from all other websites and companies. The Brumley board was set up by an accountant for a customer I think. But it wasn't moderated and was getting overloaded with spam. Nobody was responding to emails, so I imported the forum over to Global Dialysis. Then the Brumley board shut down shortly afterwards.

Thanks for the link from Bill Peckham, he's been a distant friend for many years. I would really like to meet him one of the days.

I actually have had Global Dialysis bookmarked/in my favorites for quite some time, but I had not visited that site until I saw this thread...it IS new and very nice looking!  I used to live in the UK (south London) and my son still lives there, so the idea that I will soon be trapped here in the US on dialysis and might not ever get to go and visit him is my darkest nightmare.  I may call on your services in the not too distant future.  So glad you've joined!

Sorry to hear about what happened to your wife, but I'm glad she loved life! I appreciate your hard work mate.
