Goofynina and Epoman - Gone But Not Forgotten

WWW
« on: October 23, 2010, 02:15:41 PM »

The Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. David Thompson, died this morning.  He was 48 years old.  He died of pancreatic cancer.  I knew he was ill, but did not think it would be so soon.  He had been having treatment in the US (we had been told officially that it was inoperable), but came back home and died surrounded by his wife Mara and his three daughters.  I know Mara well, as we taught at the same high school in Barbados.  She was a PE teacher (originally from the island of Grenada)
Here is a picture taken at happier times.  He is the one in the grey clothes and Mara is next to him. Next to Mara with a green shirt is the deputy Prime Minister who has been sworn in as Prime Minister - the Hon. Freundel Stuart.
Those of you who pray, please say a prayer for his family and my country at this time.

My sympathies to you and Barbados. Damn that cancer!!! URGH!  My step brother is in a cancer treatment center right now in Phila. and I can not believe how may people have been afflicted with cancer. I'm sure you have many good memories. Keep them close to your heart!

I'm not a prayer person but I wish your country well and express my solidarity with you and your family. It is sad to lose such a good leader.
