hi my nan=me is kenny.I'm from Edinburgh i attend the royal infirmary Edinburgh 3 times a week for treatment.iwas on apd from2005-Jan 2008.had a transplant then but disappointingly it failed after 8 days.so now I'm on hemo.I'm 49 years old. i feel lucky that i can get treatment but we all have our off days. i try to keep up beat like everyone with kidney problems so its nice to have a forum were u can let of steam and listen to others.i will be looking into this forum reg so hope to meet and talk to people like me.keep your self alive.Kenny

Welcome Kenny! I'm so sorry to hear your transplant only lasted 8 days- that must have been a real kick in the guts. I guess that experience reminds all of us waiting for a transplant that it DOES happen and we need to be aware of that and prepare.

Anyway not to harp on about that - hoping you can get another bite of the cherry (hmm are they low potassium?  :rofl;) and things go better. In the meantime hope to see more from you as I'm sure you have a lot of experience to share with us!

Hi Kenny, and welcome to IHD.  I'm part Scot.  I'm also 49 years old.  I've never been to my homeland.  I live in the U.S. 

That sucks about losing your kidney.  I hope you are listed for another one.

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

I've been to Edinburgh a couple of times while I lived in the UK...lovely city.  Are you hoping to get another transplant?

As I was coming out the Nephrologist office, I thought the sky was falling.
Knew I was going on dialysis since November 1999.
Had a fistula put in January 2000.
Been on 4-1/2 hour dialysis since August 28, 2001. (They took out 35Kg that single week)

Maria hasbeen on hemodualysis since January, 2005
