Did you accomplish anything today?

   I am trying to punch out two essays for English comp class....due by Monday. Both need to be at least 700 words.  Of course they are both about renal transplants.  You would think I could write them in no time at all. I WISH! One is a process essay and the other is cause and effect essay.
The process essay is about done. (419 words so far  ) It's about the process we go thru to get on the transplant list.
The cause and effect essay is going to be about causes of renal failure and what happens to the body when kidneys fail.
I will get these papers done...I will get them done...I will get them done.

Walked downstairs from my second floor apartment and got my mail and my paper.  Holy cow, when did that single flight of steps get soooooooo long?

I went to a parade, to take pictures.. in the rain.. and not one of those nice, warm, summer rains either.  This was a cold, feels-like-fall rain.  It's too early for that kind of rain.  I was cold, and soaked, but I still got good pictures

Well not me, but i'm so excited!!!

One of my D mates, a lovely young lady named Melisa, with a 10 year old daughter, fiancee and lovely family got that bloody call today!!!! Funnily enough I was just thinking of her yesterday and was going to text her asking where her bloody kidney was because it was overdue.. but then I thought no that would be like teasing her since I have mine. So bugger me when she texts 24 hours later to say she's getting her kidney!!!!!

 

Even better I was actually at the hosp picking up some meds and I went to D to ask the crew if they knew the good news! Sure they did they said.. they were waiting for her and 2 minutes later she walked in the door for a quick final D session, tests etc. omg it was awesom got to give her big hugs, meet her mum and sister again and meet the fiancee for the first time. It was so exciting - I think I was more excited than she was!!! LOL.

She's waited 4.5 years, so about the same as me.... just so happy for her!! She's one person who needs her energy and life back... I sooo hope it all goes well and can't wait to hear how she is doing!!!!

(and yes ok, when I first met her I may have had a ... little... crush on her  Must be why they moved her to a different unit a few months later hahahaha... but we kept in touch so all good).

So waiting wit baited breath to hear from her!!!

That's brilliant news Richard!

Following the enormous amount food and alcohol I consumed this weekend (it was my birthday, I was allowed) I've been incredibly good today, and will be again tomorrow, because Wednesday is D-Day and I really can't have put on the four and a half pounds I lost last week!  I also nearly fell asleep on the bus.  And then I did my first ever session of Zumba on the Wii.  Eugh!  Sweaty!

Today after working till 10pm I got up and made it back before 9am to sit on an interview panel for an admin job in our dept. We had 3 interviews in 3 hours and it was very interesting, but I was pretty wrecked by the end - and that's with a large strong coffee. It was interesting though to be on the other side of the interview, and assess answers and try and figure out who would be best for the job etc. I learned a lot but also, once i got over my nerves about doing a decent job as an interviewer, enjoyed the experience.

No news yet from my mate. Hoping the tx went well!!

It's brilliant Riki, but definitely not something I want to do in public!  For a start, I have no rhythm so I must look like a demented chicken!  Hey, as long as it's burning calories, eh?  A friend suggested that once I've practised a few moves we could have a go together.  Um, I think not.  Me, alone in a room, is public enough.

Today I not only spent 25 minutes Zumba-ing, I also spent 20 minutes Just Dance(-ing).  I will get fit, even if it kills me!

I was also reminded of why I love my job. As I left work a part-time student left too and he got off his bike and walked to the bus stop with me, having a good natter along the way.  I work with really naughty kids who don't trust/like authority so it's brilliant when little things like that happen.  Unfortunately those occasions are few and far between.

I'm so tired of having fat feet and unbendable knees from the edema from my surgery.  Yesterday, I chugged as much water as I could (which has been a battle the last two weeks, since it keeps coming back up) and then turned off the AC and wrapped myself in an extra blanket when I went to bed.  Instant sweat lodge. 
It worked!  I can comfortably bend my legs this morning, and I have something down there that vaguely resemble feet again!  I'm 2 pounds over what I weighed when I went in for surgery, but given the lack of food the last two weeks, I'm sure I still have another 6 or 8 pounds of fluid left.

Now I just need to go change my sheets.....and drink some more water.

I got my kids off to their summer program, both of them.

I am nervous, though. Aidan clearly has some sort of illness, but today is their field trip to tour the baseball stadium and have a tailgate-style party.

Last night we went to see Cars2, and Aidan was acting so strange. I asked half a dozen times what the matter was, and he finally told me after the film that he was cold. (Uh oh.) Took him home, and sure enough, low-grade fever. He took kids Motrin and went to sleep a bit early. This morning, he complained of being cold again, and he was quite draggy - fever up to 101. I gave him more Motrin and then left it up to him to decide whether he wanted to make a go of the children's center today. He decided for it, and was playing his sports in the gym when I went to sign him in for the day. I had brought a bottle of kids Tylenol Meltaways, which are these brilliant tablets that kids can dissolve in their mouths - and you can take them on airplanes! I don't think they make them anymore, so I treat our bottles like gold. I confided in one young teacher that he has a "headache" because if I say fever, he will be sent home forthwith. She said they require a doctor's note to allow me to leave any meds for him to take. Gah! Then, she adds, "It's so stupid. I'm talking to you, and you're telling me this is what you want. I'll take the fall for this. Give me the bottle."

She is taking a huge risk. This could be her job. I pulled Aidan out of the gym (and was he annoyed at me for that!) and explained that she has the bottle, do not tell your friends, do not tell any other teachers, and if you feel yourself getting sick, tell her you have a headache and she will give you the tablets. So now we've got lies piled upon lies, all so that Aidan can enjoy a few hours with his friends playing sports and seeing the stadium. It was bloody spy/counterspy this morning.

So now I'm waiting for the phone to ring that he's too ill and I have to go collect him from the stadium. And today starts the most wonderful time of the year in our little city - Bastille Days. I am trying to decide if it is worth it for me to stroll over there, grab a free piece of cake from the cakewalk, and maybe watch a master chef demonstration. The Chef De Cuisine from Milwaukee's top restaurant is making a chilled pea soup with basil cream for the crowd to sample, but I have literally 100 other things that I should be doing instead.

First of all kids, GAMBLING IS BAD, M'KAY?!!!

now that that community service announcement is done.. After a shocker of a night with some poor choices on the UK races (with no thanks to SL's main man, Tony McCoy, who is my personal jinx of a jockey  ) I managed to redeem myself(and then some) with 5 winners in a row today at Geelong (and 1 place to finish). WOO HOO! 

oh yeah, I did some work too, went to the pub had a mixed grill and a pint of pear cider (YUMMY) and all in all.. a good day

That is REALLY nice of the teacher to take that risk...it really is a big risk!! YIKES! I just tell kids if you need it take it but do it when I am not looking...we never had this conversation and I will deny it if you say I did!! You can lose your teaching license! I hope your kiddo is feeling better soon!! What is Bastille day???

I have been applying for jobs so hopefully I can find something part time!! My doc at the end of my appointment yesterday was like, "Well Rach I am hoping you go back to work and get back to living...I know you can do it!" ME- "Don't worry doc I already went to a job fair and started sending out applications/resumes." DOC- "That's my girl!"

I also applied to Kent State to go back to school and get a little more education. Try to find a more specialized niche in education!

Oh, Rachel, I totally agree. I asked that teacher several times if she was sure. Aidan did not need the drugs after all, so now we just have to find a way to get our Meltaways back from that teacher. And no temperature this morning - he was back to his smiley, energetic self.

I made it to Costco yesterday, after a quick trip to Bastille Days (see the BEST THING thread for details!) Jbeany,I did not get the soup, but I love the way you think! It was just going to take too long, the chef demonstrations already had loads of people there, and I would have been by myself. I had a bad feeling that the soup would probably have chicken stock in it (I tell myself this so I won't regret the decision too much) but I should be able to grab the recipe and we can give it a go at home after vegetarianizing it. We have loads of basil growing in our decorative pot outside the back door. My back went out when I was making dinner yesterday, so I am trying to rest it and not do more damage. Today will probably be a day of very small accomplishments.

Bastille Days is the largest French-themed festival in the US. They are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. It is my favourite festival in this city. We are city of Summerfest, which I've only been to one year and I will never willingly go again. Name a culture and we probably have a festival for it (not Welsh, though - boo!). Bastille Days is free to go to, has free chef demos and mini wine tastings, lots of music in French and English, can-can dancers, street mimes, free mini-French lessons, a 5k Storm the Bastille run that went off last night, and of course, the food! Beignets, crepes, pomme frites, and whatever other French-ish dishes that local restaurants care to create. Kids day Saturday, with a dogs in costumes parade, soccer (which my son adores) family breakfast, and other happenings. So much fun, and so low cost!

I  figured out that I'm ready to drop my pain pill dosage by another pill.  I accomplished this out by sleeping until 3 in the afternoon.  Oooops.  Well, not like I had other plans - I still can't lift anything or bend over or drive, so what else am I gonna do?
