yeah!!!! I can't believe he's doing it lol. Took a crisis, but here we are. My husband is going 3x a week instead of 2x. I can only imagine the difference. I so shoping to see some energy back in him. Finally, ridding those poisons more than 2x a week. I remember when he first started D going through a period where he felt just so wonderful for quite a while. Maybe this might be the same way. I am so happy. Sad it took a crisis to get here, but happy we're finally on track! thanks for all the support guys

Glad to hear it, if you feel he needs it. It will probably take him a while to see any benefit though . I know how i feel after having to come off early ..doesnt take much to make you feel crap ! So make him stick it out , because he might say he is no different, so its not worth doing at first .

Good indeed. He was getting some edema in legs/feet more than normal yeasterday and they still look a little swollen after D this morning but..insyead of waiting until friday he'll go again Wed. which should start to be a big help. Got out of hosp. last thursday & dialaized friday. His labs from friday show Potassium 5.8 ( a little high) and PTH 145 (low). I guess it's gonna take a bit to figure out how the renal diet is going to play into this. I know how important it is but I guess it's a matter of "getting the hang of it". For example, I was looking inline for a nice renal friendly lunch to make today. Thy seem use suggest whole wheat breads but I thought you wanted to use white bread on renal diet. SOOO confusing!! It takes time but time is of the essence too.

hey not all of us are like that. I've been needing something else though.... re white bread vs. wholegrain - yeah apparently white has slightly LESS potassium(I think it is) than the wholemeal or grain breads. For once dietry advice to have white bread. I nearly peed my pants when I read that

OK so it's Wednesday in Texas... so he should be doing his session soon. I hope he sticks to the plan and doesn't have to be dragged kicking and screaming. Yes, it sucks, but this will be SO GOOD for him.
let us know how it goes, TS!!!

He went in! I am anxious to see how he does this time because he is so full of fluid in feet/ankles/legs/ They seem to getting bigger each day. If he swells a little bit dialysis usually pulls that right off but last Monday it didn't appear too. I forgot to ask how much they took off. I will be sure to today.

Is he following ANY kind of fluid restriction? I would have thought he SHOULD be after what happened when he was near death with so much fluid on his lungs and heart....
the swelling in the feet and ankles isn't a good sign....

I'm sorry you had to go through this horrendous wake-up call, but I'm really glad to hear he's heeding it at last. I hope things continue to improve for you both.

I hope he has seen the light and this is the beginning of a new way of dealing with his disease. (for your sake!) Let us know how he does with the extra day. We'll all be waiting for news.

They took off liters since Monday he said. I don't know if that means INCLUDING, or SINCE. He drinks from a smaller glass but he has to get it together and find out exactly how much his fluid intake is going to be. After dialysis he made a grill cheese and tomato sandwhich. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Hope he's feeling better and not like he's been hit by a car! When mine was going to the center 3x a week and they took so much out, he was pretty much done for the day. On the lighter side, my husband will take a stand on certain foods that HE CANNOT HAVE and then goes and eats a whole slew of other foods that HE IS NOT SUPPOSE TO HAVE! Could it have something to do with what HE WANTS TO HAVE? I've wondered how much better his labs would be if he followed a renal diet. . . at least 60%. Any ideas?

I can only imagine that the renal does everythig to benefit your health. there is a guy at the center who is so strict he has had 1/2 hour taken off each session. he loves living life for sure and what a great inspiration

SEVEN LITRES?!!?!! A cheese and tomato sandwich??? LOL!!! Potassium AND Phos in the same package. OMG. That's kind of scary. Seven litres over in 2 days.. that's some seriously bad juju there. The recommended change in weight between treatments is 2kg/2L. Does he still pee? If he doesn't he really shouldn't be drinking more than a litre or less/day. If he's still outputting urine, than a bit more is OK. Maybe he should do what I do - get some scales at home and weigh say 3 times/day to see how he is doing. First of course he needs to make sure to note how different they are to the unit scales - I do this by taking my end weight after dialysis. Going straight home(not eating or drinking anything of course) then weighing on my home scale, then noting the difference. Then, I weigh several times between then and the next treatment to keep track of what I've put on (even if you don't "calibrate" home scales against the unit, keeping track of change from your post-D weight gives you a fair idea of how much you've put on - and between D treatments the vast majority of weight change will be fluid (I mean yes if you weigh right after a meal you'll have that "solid" weight too, but over time the general change is fluid). Taking off so much fluid may be also related still to all that fluid he had the other week when he was in hospital, but that also suggests that he's been ignoring his fluid restrictions for too long. Good luck!

Hello Texas Lady Good for you in trying more hours. My limited experience (4x5 hour sessions weekly) is that longer weekly hours can be beneficial. Bruno
