I live in Az and am a 46 yr old female.  I found out I needed a transplant when I was going to donate to my brother.  He was 13 at the time, I was 21.  When they did my work up, they found out I had the same disease and could not donate.  Everyone in my family was/is type A.  I am an O.  I was placed on the transplant list and went on PD.  It was a lot different in 85 than it is now.  I received a transplant after being on the list for 6 weeks.  The transplant lasted 14 years and I was able to have two children.  I lost the kidney in 1999 and went back to PD, doing the cycler.  My daughter gave me her kidney in 08, but it has stopped working.  I am on temporary hemo with an access in my chest.  I am going back to PD and will have my cath placed on Aug. 23rd.  I am working on another transplant with the transplant team.

Hi Survivor and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  It is a lot different than 20 years ago.  I still hate it.  I did well on my first transplant, but the politics have also changed over the years and I just don't want any part of it.  I do wish you the best though.

This site is full of good information and also a place to vent.
