I take it it's my turn.. if not, I"m taking it anyway. *LOL*

This might be easy for some.. it's a favorite of mine for a number of reasons...

When, everything that you do is wrong,
And you feel like you can barely survive Yeah!
When those around you
Are crumblin’ downwards
Buried in the sunset alive.

Riki, that would be from Weird Al Yankovic's "Bad Hair Day".

Riki, would it be "Pretty Vegas" by INXS ?

Yes it is. I posted it just before going to an INXS concert in July.  The song was written by JD Fortune, who was with them when I saw them, and is from Saltsprings, Nova Scotia, which is close to where most of my family is from

Thank you, Riki, I was quite intrigued by the text...

This is my question: usually they sing this song in the French language,
but the translation is very well known:

“Mr. President,
I am writing you a letter,
that perhaps you will read
if you have the time.
I’ve just received my call-up papers
to leave for the front
before Wednesday night.
Mr. President,
I do not want to go,
I am not on this earth
to kill wretched people...”

The Deserter by Boris Vian and Harold Berg

I actually found the French text of the lyrics and I like it better than the English translation. *G*  No, I don't speak French, but I can read it, and I know enough that I can get by if I had to.

You are correct, Riki, your turn.  :waving;

P.S. I also like Serge Reggiani singing it.

oops.. I kinda forgot that it was my turn...

The season rubs me wrong
The summer swells anon
So knock me down, tear me up
But I would bear it all broken just to fill my cup

I was listening to it, so I figured, what the heck

O. K. One from an earlier era:

"Johnnie get your gun, get your gun, get your gun,
Take it on the run, on the run, on the run,
Hear them calling you and me; Every son of Liberty
Hurry right away, no delay, go today,
Make your daddy glad to have had such a lad
Tell your sweetheart not to pine,
To be proud her boy's in line."

Quite right, galvo, sorry, it must have been a “senior moment”...

Is it a patriotic WWI  song called “Over There” which was also revived in WWII ?

Thank you, galvo.

This is also one of an earlier era, but still appropriate ...

"...Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers everyone
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn? "...

Correct Riki.

I was also taught this song at school

and unfortunately the meaning of this song is as powerful today

as it ever was.

Over to you Riki.
