One day a Mother
Went to a prison
To see an erring, but precious son
She told the Warden,
How much she loved him
It did not matter
What he had done...

The Sweetest Gift???... Lynda Ronstadt....

True you ride the finest horse I have ever seen,
Standing sixteen, one or two. With eyes wild and green,
You ride the horse so well, hands light to the touch,
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to.........

Into some foring Contery I would have for you to know
Come join along with ..... and all his joiful crew
For a Set of better fellows in this world you never knew.

That was  'The Henty Song'. It was composed by a carpenter called Charles Gee on board the Caroline during its voyage from England to Western Australia in 1829. I am surprised it's not in your repertoire.

Here's an easier one:  I was thinking of Old Ireland, and Killarney's Lakes and Fells,
I was dreaming of the Shannon and the dear old Shannon Bells,
When my fancies they suggested, in a vission sweet and clear,
Of the strange things that might happen, if we had Old Ireland here.

Darth, I conveyed your love to Camilla and she responded with a blink. You are priveleged.

Try this :  Fellow workers pay attention to what I'm going to mention,
For it is the fixed intention of the Workers of the World,
And I hope you'll all be ready, true-hearted, brave and steady,
To gather 'round our standard when the Red Flag is unfurled.

Darth, actually "Where the Parramatta River Flows", an old wobblies song from the early 1900s. It may sound familiar to you as it was based on the tune "Where the Shannon River Flows". It's a very warm arvo here, 36 degrees, and her Ladyship is snoozing. If I can figure out how, I shall post a few pics of her and the boys on the animals thread.

Mizar, I'll have to give it to you. I think "The Fraser River Flows" may have been the original adaptation by the US wobblies, before we Aussies did ours. With that sort of eseoteric knowledge, how about having a go with some rare lyrics.

Put your thinking caps on: So come all you screw warders and jailers
                                      Remember Perth regatta day;
Take care of the rest of your Fenians
Or the Yankees will take them away!

Wow, Darth.  I'm impressed...  :bow;

I have the weirdest taste in music, I'm afraid, Nurse, but I still had to ask a music nut friend!....

Try this...

It's astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control

Try this...

How the hell can a person
Go to work in the morning
and come home in the evening
And have nothing to say...

It's gone a bit quiet here. Try this:

One morning when the office had opened
A man quite old in years
Entered the express office
Showing signs of grief and fear.
When the clerk approached him
His trembling voice did say
I'm watching for my boy, Sir,
He's coming home to-day.

Angel From Montgomrey. John Prine song with great remakes by Bonnie Raitt and one by Susan Tedeschi. Use to play, and sing that song in my old blues band. Hhmmm Galvo, my mind's in overdrive. Another one to add to the bunch (easy one) "Felt like letting my freak flag fly".

He's coming home to us dead..... (An old friend used to sing it)....

Here's another....

Dennis is a menace
With his "Anyone for tennis?"
And he'd beseech me to come keep the score.
And Maude said, "Oh Lord, I'm so terribly bored"
I really can't stand it anymore...

Texasstyle, the freak flag's from "Almost Cut My Hair' - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Darth, your's is from Chris De burgh "Patricia The Stripper".

Have a go at:-

There's a hotel in the city,
As we climb the golden stairs,
And they serve the hash upon the second floor.
There's a graveyard in the cellar,
Doctor's office in the parlour,
And the undertaker keeps his shop next door.
