cats in avatars

Does everyone on here with cats have a black one, or is it just my imagination?
I too have a black cat named Shawn...if I can ever get him to sit still I'll post a picture!

    I have the impression that most of the avatar cats here are stripey numbers.  I worry sometimes that my black friend might look a bit fiendish, ... it has been said before... but he has a heart o gold, honest...

Mine's black and orange, but the orange doesn't show well in most of the pics.

My kitty is orange and white too, but I don't use him as an avatar.  My avatar is a fox, with attitude, at least, that's what I was told on twitter.

The fox avatar changes on twitter with the seasons.  At Christmas, he wears a Santa hat, on St. Patrick's day, he was wearing a leprechaun hat.  I tried to put pink bunny ears on him at Easter, but it just didn't work.  I was also going to put a party hat on him for my birthday, but I forgot. *G*  I'm thinking he'll get a witch's hat on Halloween, and maybe put a turkey feather in his mouth for thanksgiving, both the Canadian and American one.

My avatar are brother and sister, Smudgie (he has more white on his face) and his little sister Lila. She has the darker nose area. they are mostly white/grey even though the pic doesn't show it well. They are a year apart, we have a 3rd kitty, Teddy, who is 98% black with a tiny bit of white. He is also brother to the two above (long story). I can never get the 3 of them in the same place at the same time! I'll have to find a way to post a pic of Teds separately!

Ruth had some black, but as you can see she also had brown, orange and white also.

My cats haven't made it to the avatar, but one has a muddy siamese look to him and the other is a grey and white tabby with white feet.

Thank you natnnnat! You couldn't believe how close the 2 of them are. Lila had a really bad seizure when she was a couple months old and since then Smudgie is there to protect her from anything, except when she antagonizes Teddy. He tends to ignore them both then.  The 3 of them are funny in that, I've been home sick yesterday and today, they all take turns staying with me for whatever reason. I like the company and they seem content to take turns staying in bed! Strange isn't it?

That's a lovely thing about our furry friends, they seem to know when we are in trouble.  Apart from having a warm spot to snuggle up against.  One night I was alone and far from home, and minding a house which had three pets living there:  two dogs and a cat.  I came home in pain, some kind of really bad belly pains... I was young and didn't speak the language and it was past midnight, and I didn't know what to do except wait till morning.  I sat up in a hammock because lying down was bad.  Well, these pets didn't know me really well, but still they all came and gathered around me to help out with pet warmth:  the cat (a old cat which didn't normally bother to sit on laps) sat on my lap, and so did the little lap dog (so the hammock was pretty full!), while the dear old smelly-dog settled on the floor under us.  It was lovely indeed and I felt much better with them keeping me company.

Is that lovely little cat in your profile pic moving with you?  How does (s)he go with moving?   I've moved my two felines many times in their ten year lives.  You know about butter on the paws, right?  And on moving day, wherever there are built in wardrobes, I put them in the wardrobe till the house is empty, move them in their cages last, then put them before anything else, into the wardrobe at the new joint, with some water and crunchies.  They are good cats, seem to cope with that.   Hannah and Akbah send feline good luck thoughts to your moggy friend.

My little Fizzy kitty has only ever attempted a 3 week stay with my Gram when I was staying there arranging Gram's home health care.  That did not go well at all.  The 20 minute car ride terrified her.  Gram's cat wanted to play, and that scared her as well.  I think Gram scared her the most, though.  She would screech "Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty" at full volume every time my poor baby got brave enough to poke her head around the corner and peer into the living room.  Except for the 4 hour ride part, I do think this move will be easier for her.  It will just be the two of us, and it will still be her "stuff" in the apartment.  In the last couple of days, I've started taking her out to the car for 10 or 15 minutes and just sitting with her in the driveway.  We're working on a little behavioral therapy, getting her used to it in small doses so it won't be a complete shock when I take her to the new apartment.  So far, she's not thrilled at all, but I've still got 2 weeks to keep at it.  At the end of the week, I plan to work up to driving around the block. 

Butter on the paws to distract them in the cage?  Hmmm - given her usual reaction to being in the cage in the car, I think that just might end up as a big greasy mess, not a treat to calm her down.  I've been trying to work on her being able to be out of the cage once we are in the car, and getting back in it to go in the house.  She's much calmer when she can sit in my lap or next to me on the console.  Otherwise, she spends the entire time in the cage yowling at the top of her lungs, which degenerates into her slamming against the door to get out, often ending up bloody.  Out of it, she just complains a bit. 

If the car training doesn't work, I will just get some of those kitty prozacs from the vet.  Easier to give her a pill than go deaf all the way to my new place.

Be careful she doesn't end up under your feet and under the pedals while driving, that's what I always worry about.  So mine are always kept in their cages, they yowl, but I wont budge about it. 

The butter comes out soon after moving is over.  So their experience is:  lots of boxes being packed;  then, put in the cages in the wardrobe, which they don't like, but soon later the men arrive and then they are very glad to be in a box in the dark, hiding.  Suddenly, I come and get them, the house is empty, they are put in the car where they yowl at each other.  When we get to the other end, they are carried into an empty house in their boxes, and put into an unknown wardrobe.  the cage doors are opened and the wardrobe door shut.  Then they hear the men moving around again, furniture moving etc, and they are glad to stay in the wardrobe.  After awhile all is silent.  The wardrobe door is opened.  They don't come out.  Later they hear the sounds of tea time.  They come out for tea.  At some point soon after that, I put butter on their paws.  They walk around putting butter everywhere for a moment, then notice the butter and sit licking it off, and supposedly concluding that this isn't a bad (butter flavoured) place after all.

I'm not actually sure I did the butter last time we moved (this february).  But I also always give them cream on their first night, and some kind of luxury meal as well.  The way to a cats heart etc.   They come out at first, and then hide under a bed or even sometimes in the bedclothes.  When they flew in a plane from brisbane to sydney they yowled at me like banshees all the way from the airport in the taxi, and then hid in the bedclothes for three days and nights, coming out only for meals and to use the tray which I put in the corner.    Akbah sometimes hides up the chimney after a move, he did that for two moves.  I don't know how he does it.  After a few days they come out and are very happy to see all their familiar furniture and linen.

Thankfully, the way my car is designed with a big console between driver and passenger seat, she can't squeeze down around my legs to get to the pedals.  She's not really into people food, so I'll be replacing butter with catnip when it's finally time to let her out of the spare bathroom in the new place, after the movers have left.  It's going to be an adventure for both of us, I'm sure!

I don't have a kitty anymore, but I do have a very beautiful, energetic and happy red crowntail betta named Dragon,and he won't let me take his pic (he's ornery too  ), but if he ever does I will post here for you.

His aquarium and decor cost $80.00 but nothing is too good for my betta buddy!
