I think you raise a great point - there are some fantastic and wonderful people in dialysis and I think that sometimes get lost. It would take a special sort of person to work in this field, and I know a lot of my own treatment team are incredible people. Nursing staff are so often maligned for the way they act and seem, but when you think of it from their point of view it can't be easy to work with longer term patients, who you get to know and like and then well.. some will pass away - but some will get transplants and thrive... It's not like you see them for a week then they're gone sort of thing, and there really IS a sense of community fostered. If someone said to me the nurses in my unit didn't care about the patients personally I'd call BS on them, because it's so clear to me. A lot of us are NOT just patients, but we're almost friends, in a way almost extended family.. and there is a special sort of bond there. Not with all nurses obviously, but the really special ones.. you get to cherish - I know I do.
