Introduction: Inara

Hi everyone! Love the site! I'm Inara and I live in NC. I've been a nurse for 13 years, working in dialysis for 6 at a Fresenius company. Before I found my current job, I tended to job-hop....just bounced from place to place out of sheer boredom. I'd always heard that dialysis was one of those jobs that you either "love it or hate it--there's no in-between". To be honest, I hated it at first, but after about 6 months, I was in love. I honestly and truly do love my job. My co-workers and I are like an extended family and I have absolutely the best patients in the world (well, there's always a couple of little stinkers, but I still love 'em
).
I have a 15 year old daughter who is the light of my life. I'm 21 now, so...hmmmm *mental math* I was 6 years old when I had her
...Nah, I'm actually 35. I've found that a lot of dialysis workers have a personal connection with kidney failure and I'm no exception. I had an uncle who died of renal failure after an accidental overdose of a sulfa drug back in the 1950's. This had a huge impact on my father. With the loss of his older brother, he was expected to step into his shoes and start prepping to take over the family business instead of becoming a highway patrolman like he'd always dreamed of being.
Personal interests include playing PC adventure games, reading, watching sci-fi (Battlestar Galactica RULES!!), and trying not to sh*t my pants while teaching my daughter to drive with her learner's permit.
I'm glad to be here and look forward to getting to know all of you!

Welcome, Inara!
I worked in an outpatient clinic for 5 years and especially enjoyed getting to know the patients, something unique to a chronic setting. After staying home with young kids for a while I'm now getting ready to return to PRN work - and guess what, nothing else interested me but dialysis! I'll be working in the hospital inpatient unit. But enough about me!
I think you'll like it here. There's even a section for dialysis staff (Dialysis Employees). But check out all boards, if you haven't already.

Hi Inara,
I think what I long for is for my techs and nurses to treat me like extended family and care about me. But, they keep them moving around so much I can't bond with any of them. I think the Corprate Level wants it that way. I'm glad you love your job. Welcome to our site. It is primarily for people who hate dialysis, but workers bring some light on our concerns and hopefully we can learn from each other.

Welcome, Inara, looking forward to your posts. I'll bet your patients really appreciate you. The nurse at my dialysis clinic is great, and I really appreciate how much she cares about her job and about us. Thanks for all you do!
