Veteran's Day

Thank you to those who have served and are serving
this country to protect our freedom.  You are so much appreciated.

Went to a re dedication of our WWI Doughboy statue today and froze about solid. It was worth it and I even managed to get on TV.

Our club raised money to help the statue get refurbished so it was cool to be there.

Thank you to fellow Veterans, Freedom isn't free. To those who have experienced the loss of a loved one due to their service to our country are remembered and respected always.

Thanks to my dad ('Nam), my great uncles(WW2), my step brother (who's on his way to Iraq), my husband's good friend (who just came back from Iraq a few months ago with his own personal collection of shrapnel). . . and all the vets I don't know personally, too.

Rededication of doughboy statue

The doughboy statue in the median of Memorial Drive in Appleton was restored and returned to its base in September. The statue was rededicated on Nov. 11 in a Veterans Day ceremony complete with music, honor guards and remarks by community leaders.

We celebrate this ending of the war also, but we call it Remembrance Day.  In my country there is a big ceremony on the Sunday nearest the 11th, with speeches and prayers and parades.
One thing that always touched me and even brought tears to  my eyes was the old men who had been in the first World War.  These were very old men, most of them ill, but the proud way they held themselves was so touching.  I don't even suppose any of them are alive now, but they left an indelible mark on me.
The 11th of November is so important to the French, that there is hardly a town that does not have a street, avenue, boulevard or square named 'le onze novembre'
