The official definition, for those who have never heard the term before - "An earworm is a song, tune, or commercial jingle that gets “stuck” in one’s head, such that it seems to repeat itself involuntarily.  Earworms are often described as “catchy” music that becomes annoying.  An earworm is not actually heard, but rather rehearsed mentally."

I've got "Tempted by the Fruit of Another" by Squeeze stuck and I can't make it go awwwwway!

:lol;  Every time I went to Disney World I got that "Small World" song stuck , and the "Veggie, Veggie, Fruit, Fruit" chorus.

I read an explanation as to why that happens it actually is something about the songs.  But, sometimes the person has some sort of quirk that makes it more likely, and longer lasting.  The article gave recommendations on how to short circuit them but I've forgotten it.  ;D

Do you have the thoughts that go along with the song? Many times, when a song sticks like that, for me the words have too many meanings.   :wine;

Earworms huh?  Then I get them all the time.  Usually when I get up in the morning, my alarm clock plays music and it's almost always the song I heard that woke me up, is what is stuck in my head most of the day.  ::)

The university of Cinncinati has a whole web site about them.  They suggest eating a cinnamon stick - something about focusing your brain on another intense stimuli.  Or singing the whole song.

So the cure, apparently, is kareoke.

The cure may be worse than the disease.

When I was at the Elvis show in NY mid-Oct. I must have got an
Elvis earworm that lasted about a week and still comes back
occasionally.  :)
never heard of that before.
When I saw the title for this topic I was almost afraid to look at it.
sounded bad...................

Me too.  I wasn't even sure if I wanted to click on it.  I am glad I did, if not I would have had another kind of worm pestering me (wondering about how you could get a  worm stuck in your ear)
Sometimes the song that gets stuck is one that you don't even really like.  That is the type that sends me batty.  I usually have to consciously sing another song that I like for a while.
