Thank you to all who have served or are serving our country.  There are many members who are vets and I thank you for helping keep our country free.  Thanks to my son-in-law, a former Ranger and to Sluff's son, Patton, who is in the service now and may be facing deployment.  And thanks to the generations past who fought to defend the rights of so many.    :usaflag;   :usaflag;   :usaflag;

We call it Armistace Day, but it's the same thing.  To remember all those people who have fought for us.  And a celebration of the end of WW1 of course.

In Canada it is Remembrance Day.  It is a Federal holiday.  All schools and government businesses are closed today.

And that is why Nov 11th was chosen----seize fire was declared in the 11th hour, on the 11 day of the 11 month.   My grandfather was in that war. We have a long line of veterans.  Our thanks to all the heros of every generation, every nation.

I called my dad and gave him my thanks. He was in the Battle of the Bulge.

First day of school 08'

« Reply #9 on: November 11, 2009, 07:01:48 PM »

Its Rememberance day here as well. Then April its ANZAC day (day the Brits dumped the Aussie and New Zealand troops in Turkey and left them there to perish, but our boys showed them they were tougher than that).

Also here is a bit of war bravery trivia for you. My husbands father was a Ghurka (a regiment in the British Army comprised of Nepali men, Nepali's were chosen for their feirce fighting ability and that they were one of the few nations who held back the British empire and weren't colonised). Anyway in WW1 in Turkey a group were sent to take a fort on a hill, they fort their way up and used all their ammo, they held the hill using their khukuri's (scary big knives) and then were ordered to come back down after a day or so. Having no ammo they had to fight their way down using their knives. All this just puts new light on Winston Churchill's statement to win at any cost (made during WW2).

This makes sense if you only understand that in WW1 Winston Churchill was the one who designed and sent the ANZAC's to be slaughtered at Gallipoli (Turkey).

I have a lot of Admiration for those boys!

I also have some more recent photos from an email, they have tag lines attached (please read the tag line and then look at the corresponding photo, you will understand it's meaning then).

The Email was entitled "proof of abuse by troops" (there are more photos than i can fit)

1. Armed Troops force Afghans to Seesaw until they talk.

2. Afghan Child bites soldier in self defence

3. Soldier overheard to say 'Talk or I'll tickle you till you pee!'
More Evidence Of Failed Intelligence Policy.

4. Soldier Attempts to Eat Afghan Child!

5. Clear Evidence of Forced Labour by Troops!

6. Soldier Caught At 'Tickle-Torture' To Extract Intelligence!

The vey last photo is too much to put up and there is one more i couldn't fit. If you would like me to forward you the email just contact me and i will be happy to. It is quite beautiful
