I had a question I was hoping someone could help me with. I now understand that the Rennin hormone regulates blood pressure (thanks to this site!), but am wondering why it is common to have to be on MORE than BP med? In my naive thinking process I think one should surfice. Uurrgghhh! Sometimes this all so frustrating! I mentioned earlier my husband stopped his for a week to see if he'd feel better because he thinks they make him sluggish. he is back on them now. I think these are the meds he takes for BP :Hydralazine 25 mg.,  Simvastatin 20 mg.,  Amolopine 10 mg., Lebetatol 300mg. & Lisotril???   Does anyone else take more than one & why? Thanks for any input.

Im only on 5mg Amlodipine and 0.2mg Moxonidine for BP i think, once a day.
Take a beta blocker 50mg Metoprolol twice daily and one ace inhibitor 10mg Ramipril.
Then my binders and Aranesp. The Neph was surprised by how little I was on when I seen her recently.
The meds say not to abruptly stop taking them, the doc would have prescribed them for a reason.

Simvastatin is a cholesterol lowering drug, not for BP.

My sister is on 4 different BP meds (she has PKD) and she's got good control now.

I went to a neprology conference and learned that there are many different combinations available, and a patient may even take as many as 9 BP meds.

Each of those BP meds (not counting the simvastatin, which doesn't directly or immediately affect BP) work in different ways. Doctors prescribe multiple types of medications with the same ultimate effect so that the side effects can be minimized. Taking a dose of Drug A that will lower your BP by 20 points will have more side effects than taking enough Drug A and Drug B to lower your BP by a total of 20.

Well it looks like taking more than one BP med is pretty common. Restorer, your reply what was I was looking for. Thanks to everyone. I would never be able to my husband on here but the learning I do is certainly relayed. You guys are the greatest.
