Or im going to be soon !!! Ok so how do i explain this one ?  I dont have a choice of doctors while on hemo and im sad to say my doctor is an 'old stuffed shirt' everything with him is black and white and boy oh boy does he know it all !! So as you know ive had loads of trouble with binders and finally he agreed to let me try Alu-caps (alu-tabs) Oh dear these dont like me either. Now without all the details, i have given them a fair trial and compared them with weeks i take them and weeks i dont and they give me terrible heartburn/indigestion. Ok so whats the problem? er these tablets were originally given to people to help stop indigestion , so how am i going to explain this one ?  Guess i will be in the naughty corner again !!!

Oh poor KS...

This whole bloody thing is SO hard for you!...  :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;...

Have you tried Renagel as a Phosphate Binder???... Mum was taking Calcichew, but like you with the Alu-Caps, they were making her sick... I asked around and I found out about Renagel... It works well for her!...

Does your Neph. have a biggish team???... Would there be any chance of getting a word with a Registrar???... Often they're a good source of help and advice without having to run the barrage of a visit to 'God Almighty' himself...

We're VERY lucky with Mum's Neph... An absolute gem, and very approachable...

I hope you get this sorted... ESKF is more than enough to be dealing with without fiddly awkward things like this making it harder...

God bless....

Love and  :grouphug;

Do you know no one is approachable without going through the nurses and im sick of them putting in their  :twocents; worth ! We only have 2 doctors ! and you cannot get to choose which one you want , great eh !
How is your mum doing ?   xxx

Hi KS....

That's a pain with only having two nephs.... There are only two Consultant Nephs. at our hospital, but they share responsibility, and there are about four or five Registrars on the team, a couple of interns, and a great bunch of nurses!... Thank God!... I'd be committing murder if Mum was going through a fraction of the s**t you're suffering!... :cuddle;

Have you an understanding GP???... Could he or she help???... Could an anti-emetic medication such as Maxalon be used???... I'm on meds for arthritis, asthma, hypertension, and heart valve problems... Most of them made me feel really sick... My GP prescribed a drug to help protect my stomach (Protium), and it has improved greatly... If your GP is good, perhaps he or she could become an ally....

Mum's in good form, thank God, and thank you for asking.... She had a bad UTI for several weeks, and thankfully the last antibiotic appears to have kicked in... She has had such a poor appetite, but the last few days, she's eating me out of house and home!... And do you know what???... I'm NOT complaining!...

Keep in touch, and keep fighting the good fight!...  :cuddle;

God bless...

I have not tried all the brands of binders but have taken renagel, renvala, and now phos-lo.  I have a lot of upset stomach and indigestion issues...but they prescribed something to take for the upset stomach...is there something you could take with the binders for the stomach?  Sorry I can't be more help!

Have you tried plain old TUMS?  If your Calcium is OK, it is a great binder, easy on the stomach.  Depending on your calcium and Phos. levels, usually 2 with each meal or snack.  Plus, they are CHEAP, and over the counter.  We use them all the time.

I had a lot a trouble with finding the right binders.
I now take Renagel with some meals and Phoslo with others which seems to be the right balance, for whatever reason.
And I am very strict with the food I eat so I do not have to take as many binders.  I have problems when I take a lot of binders.
As I do not know your history or diet I can not recommend, but personally I had to adjust my diet more than I had to try different binders.
Good luck, I am so sorry you are having issues with this )-:

I've seen Tums mentioned a lot on this site but I don't think they are available in the UK. Maybe they are branded with a different name.
