I've noticed in the last couple weeks that the longer away from a treatment I reach, the more body odor I seem to have. This is really bothersome for obvious reasons, but I've never had a problem before. I realize this is prevelant in a majority of patients because of the build up of waste products, but what would cause it to increase to such a degree in such a short span of time?
If anybody has any answers I would love to hear them. I don't mind taking extra showers, but I'm wondering if it could be someting else.

I having trouble with that toxic sweat as well. (I haven't started dialysis yet.) I was having trouble figuring out why I seemed to be getting the ammonia smell even when I had just showered, and put on clean clothes - not having had them on long enough to get sweaty. Then I caught a whiff of my clothes right after I took them out of the dryer one time. Apparently, the ammonia smell builds up in the clothes and doesn't wash out with just laundry soap after a while. I had to start using color safe bleach on everything to get rid of it. Just something you might check. . .
Other than that, I haven't got much to offer for bright ideas - have you changed any meds or your diet lately?

It is because when dialysis patients sweat a large concentration of the sweat is made up of urea. It is the urea giving off the smell.

How much dialysis are you getting? Your blood levels do increase quite significantly between treatments.

ONe thing that you can try is adding some bicarbonate of soda to your bath water (or putting some in a jug, if you are showering). That is a help for odour, and itching as well.

Well you could work out. Not only will it benefit your condition but it will help release more toxins when sweating. Use wrestling plastics while doing cardio and it will help release the toxins and help sweat out extra fluid you may drink.

Dont think I would use fabreze on clothing, not sure if it is for that? I get enough itch from the tape as it is. I use a nice smelly washing powder, which helps. I dont really tend to get any odour, unless Ive been doing stuff in the garden or whatever.

Actually Amber, that is one of many uses for fabreze. It can remove smoking and pet odors from clothing and it does remove pet urine odors from carpets and furnature.  |
