Hi from India
«
on:
September 26, 2009, 06:36:00 PM »
Hi all,
I am a 34 year old from India. I was diagnosed with kidney disease (Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome) in July 1997. I was on hemo for about a year and a half, had a failed transplant and was on PD for the next six years.
I was caught on a beach during the December 2004 tsunami, somehow managed to save myself after which I had a series of tunnel and exit site infections and peritonitis and had to stop PD.
I am now on nocturnal home hemo, six nights a week, 7 hours each night. I use a Fresenius 4008S.
I work full time on developing applications for the iPhone and the Mac.
Thanks
Kamal

glad you joined us here. I spent about 5 months in India in 1975 and am only sorry that my immunusuppression since transplant keeps me nervous about returning. I loved traveling in Southeast Asia. I too find your blog interesting and I'm quite sure that you are so far our only member who got a PD infection from a tsunami. What a scary time that must have been. Hope to see you posting here regularly.

Welcome Kamal and "Hungi" (The only word I know in Punjabi)
I read your Tsunami story. How scary and how blessed you are to be here. I'm surprised that you didn't get an immediate infection. After your morning on the beach when did you get to do your next exchange? Weren't your supplies contaminated? Fascinating story.

Hi Rerun,
I did my next exchange that evening. The bags were all sealed. So, I assumed they would not be contaminated.
Again, I am not really sure that the water really caused the infection because the infection started a few months after the tsunami.
Thanks

Kamal! My name is Krisna. (My dad had friends who were Hindu and named their daughter that and he thought it was pretty so he named me that. I like it!) In November it was 30 yrs since my kidneys failed for reasons unknown. I wish you luck in finding another kidney that will work for a long, long time!

Ha, well, I have to say "Welcome from a fellow developer."
As for what I do, well, you know those meetings where everyone introduces themselves and says what they do? I always used to say "...and I program in any language for which I can get a compiler and a reference sheet."
