September 6th was the anniversary of the date I started dialysis after my 4th transplanted kidney rejected.  I am still not eligible for another transplant.  I've been contemplating giving up!  In November it will be 30 yrs since I was diagnosed with ESRD.  I don't know if I can keep it up.  It's so hard for me to go and lately I've been calling and rescheduling for the next day. I'm not going any miore than 2 days in between but it's still not a good habit to get into.

Nov. 1979 - Diagnosed with glomerulonephritis of unknown origin by Dr. Robert
                  Hickman
Dec. 1979 - Diagnosed with Viral Pneumonia
Late Dec. 1979 - Emergency surgery to place a Scribner Shunt in left arm for dialysis
Jan. 1980 - Start hemodialysis until recovered from viral pneumonia
Feb. 27, 1980 - Receive 5 antigen living related transplant from father
Mar. 3, 1987 - PTH removed and part of one placed in left arm.  Fistula also placed in right arm.
Sept. 1988 - Start hemodialysis
Feb. 4, 1989 - Receive 6 antigen perfect match cadaveric transplant
Jan. 1994 - Return to hemodialysis
Oct. 18, 1996 - Receive 6 antigen perfect match cadaveric transplant
Nov. 22, 1996 - Emergency surgery to repair aneurysm to artery in kidney
Dec. 20, 1996 - Emergency surgery to repair aneurysm.  Kidney removed due to infection which has spread down right leg to abt mid thigh.
Apr. 1997 - Arterial bypass surgery to restore arterial blood flow to right leg
July 29, 1998 - Receive 6 antigen perfect match cadaveric transplant
Sept. 6, 2002 - Return to hemodialysis
Dec. 7, 2002 Sm. intestine ruptures while home alone. Still conscious upon arrival at hospital.
Dec. 8. 2002 - Surgery to repair ruptured bowel.  The prognosis is not good.  Surgeon tells family to prepare for the worse.  Spend a week in a coma and 3 months in hospital.  Takes abt a year and a half to completely recover.

Is PD out of the question for you?  You get to sleep right through it, without all those alarms going off that the technicians are ignoring.  I feel your pain.  I was only on hemo for 6 months waiting for my peritonitis to go away, and I hated every minute of it.  Any time you have to call the front desk and demand that a technician come and turn off your alarm, which has been ringing for over 20 minutes, you know there's a major problem in the system!  Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

7years of dialysis? and 4 transplants ! Is that right ? Wow , i have been doing dialysis for nearly 5 yrs and not had one transplant. I know it gets difficult but whats the option ? I said i would call it a day when i had to do Hemo (after 4 yrs + on PD) but here i am into my 3rd week on Hemo and i hate it. I know its horrible , but try and stay positive after all you know what the other option is!

Krisna, Please dont give up, you have been through an awful lot, if you give up, it would have been all for nothing. You sound like you are having a really bad day to-day. Is there any one you can talk to, can you talk to your care givers or your family? I send lots of hugs, and prayers. :flower;

Yeah, my new doctor just asked me that last month.  The answer is PD is not an option for me.  I have mesh holding my abdominal muscle together.  I've had 4 kidney transplants and numerous other abdominal surgeries.  Plus many hernias.  Actually at my center they're pretty quick to shut off the alarms.  But then the RN's and tech's are right there by the patients.

Why aren't you eligible for another kidney transplant?
I just recently met a man who has had 5 and he's doing very well.
I wish life didn't have to be such a challenge for you.

Was on in-center hemodialysis 2003-2007.
7 yr transplant lost due to rejection.

I have to get all my teeth taken out plus I have some other physical problems that the doctors and I are conflicting abt.  Basically, I have a history of ovarian cysts.  A surgeon has already removed my right ovary because he discovered a cyst the size of a grapefruit on it while he was repairing a hernia.  I am refusing to have to other removed because the cysts on that one haven't been that bad.  They sent the cysts they removed before to the lab and they were benign.

Sorry you are going thru all of this, and hope it gets better soon. I have no advice for you except, dont give up now. There has to be light at the end of the tunnel somewhere.

Krisna I have a cyst somewhere in the area of my rectum and backbone. The transplant team wants it out and I refuse to have major back surgery.
