Has Anyone Ever Had Surgery Related to Sleep Apnea?
«

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea two years ago and they prescribed the CPAP machine to force air down my nasal cavity and throat. I've never gained more than four hours of sleep because of my claustrophobia. In the middle of night, I regain a little consciousness and discover something on my face and throw it off. But I don't realize I'm doing it because I'm not fully awake.
I'm tired of every available moment being used to rest instead of living my life. I'm thinking about having the UPPP surgery where they take out your tonsils, adenoids and shave some length off your uvula.
Just wondering if anyone has, or know of anyone, who has had the surgery.
Thank you.

Me too having the sleep apnea. It was 5 yrs ago, i went for a sleep test, and found Im one of the patient. Same advise - go for operation or intensive exercise to bring the BMI to balance.
I read an article, cant remember which, a guy having similar syndrom, he manage to cure the apnea by exercise on the bicycle. It was in the US.
Obesity is the main curprit of the Apnea, my advise match your BMI as per prescribe.

That's Stacy's pic on his post - he's skinny, so exercise won't help his problem.
Stacy, as miserable as you've been with the lack of sleep, if it was me, I'd go for the surgery!

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm one of the lucky ones who can't blame obesity on my sleep apnea. If that were the case, you can bet I'd be working on that daily.
My sleep doctor appointment is Thursday and I'm going to tell him that I need to schedule the surgery because I can't live like this any longer.
Occasionaly, when I stay in bed all day on Saturday, and then go to treatment, I feel llike myself for an hour or two. With all the toxins out of my body, and with some major rest, I'm happy and joking with the staff.
I miss that guy. Dialysis I can handle. Being sleep deprived is unbearable.
I'll keep you updated.

I had a problem, although not as bad as Stacy's perhaps.
I solved it by (1) sleeping in a chair and (2) by sleeping in a different bedroom from my wife, so she's not disturbed. I still sleep in a chari most of the time, but I sometimes go to bed.

Stacy, get the surgery so you know. My firend got the surgery and it worked for a couple of years but now she is back on the CPAP machine. But, she is overweight...... It may work fine for you. Give it a try.
