I have been told today that my training for nocturnal home dialysis should start in a month.  This will mean that I will have to go to Halifaxx for 6-8 weeks and stay ( I can't imagine being without Buster and Daisy that long)

I am feeling totally comfortable doing my own needles so I won't have that to worry about when I am learning the machine...

I am so excited

Yes Kim I lived in Wolfville for 4 years.  What a beautiful little town and so much going on with Acadia University there.  I taught French Language and Literature there and started the French Residence, La Maison Française.  I trained at the Queen E II also but it was the Victoria General then.
Best of luck with the training and most especially with missing your pups.

Twirl, I will be staying at a place called "The Lodge"  Its like a hotel but its free, its owned and operated by the doctors for people that need to stay in Halifax because the main hospital is there...  There is a great little coffee house just down the street with free internet... I will be able to go online just about everyday  :)

I do wish it wasen :)t in the summer tho, summers here are so short you hate to miss out on a day of it

Monrein, I found a doctor in Wolfville, and I do my dialysis in Berwick...  I am in love with the farmers markets, fresh strawberries and homemade pickles

As for the needleing, I would RECOMMEND it to EVERYONE at least try, you will be amazed how liberating it is not to be scared at who is doing your needles

Good luck Kim!!!  We had the needling mastered before we started to train as well.  Sometimes that cuts the training a little shorter.  We were only 5 weeks training. Remember if you wanna talk or have any questions just pm me your telephone #.
We are hoping to have to go for training as well. We are going to get a new dialysis machine ( one where we don't have to mix our own bicarbs!!)  The plan is to replace the machines as they break down.  Our dialysis nurse is on vacation until the end of July.  As soon as she gets back hubby is going to contact her and see if we can be trained in August rather than wait until our machine breaks down.  That way we won't have to worry about me having to take time off work with short notice.  This training should only take a week or two. It will still be a Fresenius machine just the new model!!

Here is the scoop...

I will be heading to Halifax Aug 3rd and start my nocturnal training August 4th..

They are telling me to plan on 6-8 weeks training, but I do find that they over estimate how long training takes...

I am Very EXCITED but also sad that I will have to leave Andrew and my beloved dogs for that long.  I will be able to come home on the weekends, and Andrew does promise that he will take my family to Halifax to visit, but I am still sad...

It has been a very hard month, my favorite Auntie passed away a week ago and it has hit me harder then I ever thought it would, I miss her :(, she is one of the people that has always understood how hard this kidney crap has been on me, and now she isn't in my corner any longer, sigh**

Anyhow as you can see , My mind is on turbo "wonder" and I will try to focus on what I have to do in Halifax and be thankful that I have this opportunity

I am sorry about your Auntie Kim.  :cuddle;

Good luck with the training in Halifax. Hopefully the time will go fast! It's good that you can be home on the weekends.

Kim we were told 6-8 weeks for training too!!  The time will go so fast it will be unbelievable.  Don't get discouraged with the training. It takes time to remember everything. It no time at all it will just be a routine part of your day.  Good luck!!!  Wish I could be there in person to encourage you but I can only be there in spirit like monrein!!  :cuddle;
