Thank goodness for our pets

I love my dogs , i live for my dogs , they get me through the day and tonight i have had the biggest smile on my face for weeks thanks to one of them ! Over here in the UK at the moment its very stuffy tonight ..maybe summer is coming? and i have just been upstairs to set my cycler up for the night, so i thought i would stick my big floor standing fan on to cool my room. Now normally my dogs dont leave my sight they lie at my feet (or on the sofa!) anyway one of them got up and i could here him going upstairs..strange i thought ..anyway i just crept up to see what he was up too and there he is flat out on my bed fast asleep with the fan blowing away on him ...hes not a daft cookie is he ?

Smart puppy!

Having the opposite problem here - it's been cold, cold, cold.  My cat spent the entire night sleepping directly on top of me, since I forgot to turn on her side of the electric blanket!

That is one cool dog in more ways than one 

Dogs are wonderful, non judgemental, always pleased to see you, forgiving and loving just as long as they are fed, watered and walked.  My Molly (Springer Spaniel) is ill now (cancer of the pancreas) but she is still such a happy and friendly soul.  She is on steroids and a special diet and has lived for nearly 2 years with the disease, the average, so the vet said, is 10 to 12 weeks but Molly certainly isn't average!

KS I am so glad you have some company and that they make you smile, I do worry about you being all alone with all the nasty things that have happened to you lately.  God bless you and your pets

Everyone should go out to their nearst animal rescue organization and adopt at least 2 -- whatever you fancy -- dogs, cats, rabbits!  I hightly recommend it!

That is hilarious - a cat with "her side of the electric blanket" giggle. However it's so true. Celeste has "her side of the bed" too though she normally snuggles in to me at night - specially when it's cold... and I love that and like KS's dogs and everyone else's pets they offer unconditional love and support and specially can be very perceptive when they need to be.

My sweet Willow takes care of me when I am not feeling good.  The past two Thursdays, after I am home from the infusions, she curls up and nuzzles her head into my neck and puts her arms around me.  How do they know?  Humans, on the other hand, will avoid you like the plague!!

I'm thinking I'll start calling my husband "Puppy" or "Kitty".  He's so protective and solicitous when I don't feel well that, although I know it's very sweet, it almost drives me crazy.  Every ten minutes he asks how I'm doing or kisses me on top of the head as if I might break at any moment or wants to know if I need anything.  When I accept all this fussing without comment he knows I'm really not well but if I react with rolled eyes he knows I'm feeling better.  Just like the pets, he reads minds and he has his side of the bed too.

My cats sleep with me on the bed.  Sometimes real close. Other times on the edge because I kicked them there in my sleep.

We had 2 cats. One was " Big Sam" who I got when he was 4 weeks old and I had to bottle feed him. He was so much like a dog, he would follow me around, or sit and stare at me. A ham sandwich or apiece of bacon was not safe, no matter where he was. He slept behind my knees and always came in the bathroom in the morning to say good morning. Of course, you know where this is leading. We had to have him put down a couple of weeks ago, at the age of nearly 17 years. Cause of Death. Kidney failure. How ironic is that.

I'd be lost without my dog, Hop-Sing.  He follows me everywhere I go in the house.  If I sit down, he wants to sit in my lap.  When I go to bed, he's right there with me, and he tries to sleep just as close to me as he can get (often times, I'll move over in the bed to give him more room, and he just moves closer to me).  When I'm in the shower, he curls up on the bathmat and waits for me to get out -- I have to step over him to get out of the tub.  I think he wishes I were a Mama Kangaroo so I'd have a pouch to carry him around in.  I would like that, too.

He's always happy to see me when I come home -- he runs to the couch and stretches way up so I can come and kiss him.  He wags his tail whenever I say his name.  When I talk to him (which is often), he cocks his little head to one side, like he's listening to my every word.  He is a "mama's boy" and I love him so very much.

I miss my dog and parrot who knew when I was sick. I still want another dog, but I need to have my own place again, for my sanity too!

We have two cats, but the male cat will sleep with you, next to you on a chair, or gaurd your door even when your not there, follow you around in the back yard, drink from a water bottle, dig in the yard like a dog, and many other odd things such as eating Cheetos, which get's his face a little orange. So his nickname is Cheeto. The female cat will check up on you and sleep at the foot of the bed, but is more independent.

My dogs are my life, too. They are everything. We do not have children, we have never really wanted any. But we will always have bull terriers.

Rose, I am so sorry to hear of your dog's cancer. Our Chloe, too, has just this week been diagnosed with cancer, two in fact - haemangiosarcoma and lymphoma. She is quite unwell. Lots of fluid on her lungs, difficulty breathing or even lying down at times, and not eating much. We have her on diuretics for the fluid, and she had a couple of good days, but today she looks off again. She is 16 years old, but I always expect them to be kind of immortal. Heck, Diesel (see my avatar) was even older and I just felt that he would always be here (no matter how ridiculous that sounds).

I am worried about Dorothy, our youngest bull terrier. She has never been without another dog in the house. When Diesel died, she coped okay because her and Chloe still had each other. But when Chloe goes, Dorothy will be totally alone. I will be too scared to go to work and leave her during the day!

I have a question regarding our pets.  My Willow (cat) always is with me, especially when I don't feel good.  The past two weeks, I have had Rituxin infusions and for the first two days after the infusion, she will have nothing to do with me.  Do you think I smell different with the chemicals in me and she doesn't like it?   She will cuddle with others, but turns away from me.  By day three, she is all lovey and wants to sit with me again.  Anyone had a similar experience?   Just wondering.

Not sure if it could be the smell of the chemical, but interesting.  My question is are you gone an extra amount of time when you have the infusion?  My dog Mike always got really angry if I was gone  longer than he expected.  Also, if I left without telling him goodbye (for any length of time) he would pee on my pillow.  Mind you, he had a pillow too but it was always on mine.  Sometimes I wonder how the little monster lived as long as he did.   lol

I think it could be th smell of the chemicals. Pets have a better sense of smell than humans and maybe the chemicals used is not to her liking. From my experience of the pets I have had, they can sense when your sick by the pheramones your body gives off. Maybe the infusion altered the pheramone scent given off or masked it. Just remember Paris, she comes back to you.
