Bubba and I went to Vernon's Kountry Katfish and we parked in the handicapped spot -
I have a sticker - we had a fun lunch and we got in the van to leave - a couple was walking up to the restaurant and they kept looking back at us - giving us dirty looks - they would take a step and turn and look and take a step and turn and look -- glaring at us - we looked back at them -
I told Bubba they must think we do not need to park in this space -- so we went in and my son asked it they had a problem with where we parked -- I showed them my arm and told them that I have no kidneys - they looked shocked - I said I may not look sick but actually I am on life support - dialysis -
my son was very polite and called the man sir - their excuse was that they were watching a man have a stroke -- I asked if the man was in our van ?????  No, the man was at his table drinking ice tea ???
I have kidneys with almost no function --  it is like having no kidneys

If you ever go to Vernon's Kountry Katfish  -- order the hushpuppies with green tomato relish

That was sooooo lame. You and Bubba can confront for me any day! I need to develop that skill instead of turning myself into a door mat!!!!  :rofl;

Way to go.

Twirl, you and Allen make me so proud!

You did a good thing by educating those people that all disabilities are not instantly recognizeable, and you and your son did it with class.  I am sure they won't make that mistake again!

Way to go Twirl and Bubba!   :2thumbsup;

After my sister had cancer and a double mastectomy some old guy was giving her crap about parking in the handicapped parking and she lifted her shirt and showed her no boobs just scars.  I'm pretty sure she said something too.  But, he was so shocked he just shut up and turned around and left.

Its a sad situation.

They actually probably they were doing some measure of good by giving the staredown because they evidently thought it was another person who didnt actually need such a spot using it.

Unfortunately too many people who do not need such stickers or spots manage to get them and use them pretty much tainting it for those that actually do need them.

Bubba learned a lesson also -- a person parks a big truck that is one of those high up trucks ( I would need a ladder to get in it ) in a handicapped space and the person has a sticker - Bubba didn't think he needed a space -- parking is hard to find at A&M -- anywhere you look -- he told me that he is not judging by looks anymore -- maybe the person has a handicap that is not visible --- the person is not on the football team or Bubba would still be questioning it --

Oh do not start me on this one !!! :Kit n Stik;  I was once online (a different forum) when we got talking about disabled parking spaces and also mother and child ones. This woman came on and said that all the mother and child ones should be nearest to the store and the disabled ones put at the back of the car park, when we asked her why ..she said ..well if you are that disabled or ill then you shouldnt even be going round a store , so obviously if you could make it round a store then you could quite easily walk across a car park .........all i will say is all hell let loose on that forum and of course she didnt come on it again !!!! :boxing;

We were stared at by an older couple at Carrows near our house, when we pulled into a handicapped parking place and I bounded out of the car.  Victor put his handicapped placard up, and the old couple nodded and went on their way.  I thought for a minute there we were going to have a fight! Sigh!

Priceless!

My mother had one after breaking both her hips - and she got accosted all the time.  She looked young and healthy - but she wasn't supposed to walk far on the crumbling chalk she had for bones.

My husband had a cancerous tumor removed from his heart and is now on dialysis after an infection he had during chemo shut his kidneys down. His doctor suggested getting a handicap sticker for him. I has been a real life saver for us, especially those times when he was so weak he needed a wheelchair to get around. He is able to walk around now, but when he feels really weak and tired, we use it. We get the same type of reaction, especially at our local Farmers Market where the average age is about 90! It seems that people think that if you are not elderly or using a wheelchair or some other assistive device to get around, you MUST be faking it to get a prime parking spot. That really makes me so mad! These people have no idea the hell you are living with day in and day out. Kudos to you!! :clap;

Sometimes I'm doing someone else a favor if there is only 2 parking places and one is handicapped.  I'll take it so someone else can have the other one.  It is legal and I'm going to use it.  If I'm on life support by god that is one of the only perks.  I would be like twirl if someone said anything.  Right now I have 4 incisions healing.... I could give them a real show!
