Found this site a couple of nights ago will doing one of my 3x5hrs midnight to 5.00am dialysis sessions. My unit is based in the North of England and I have been a patient since the eighties, along with my grandfather, father, brother and niece.A couple of these are no longer around
I am 50 years old and married with children and grandchildren, tried to maintain a career but gave up and retired a couple of years ago. I spend my day sleeping/reading papers/PC and staring out of the window like Grandpa Simpson, all in all not too bad.
While reading through this site it is obvious that regardless of which country we live in the same problems and gripes with Dialysis seem to crop up, but it is still better than being dead.
My unit has 260 patients on HD over 4 shifts 24 hours a days 6 days a week, the Hospital is one of the biggest transplant centres in Europe with and average wait of just less than 3 years. My father waited on the list for 11 years my brother 2 weeks! me 4 years and counting.
I am off to the Unit in a couple of hours but thankfully we have individual flat screen cable TV and the Hospital now allow the use of mobile phones and access to their Wi-Fi network for laptops so time does not drag too much.

Keefbeer
It will be very interesting to hear about dialysis in such a huge unit, I go to a place that has only 16 patients

Welcome, welcome!
My husband's family also has a slew of kidney problems: his dad, sister and our daughter.
Your center sounds very interesting. I hope the care you receive there is as good as the amenities!
Post often.

4 years is a long time. I hope that you get your kidney soon!!! Since your brother only had to wait 2 weeks for a kidney, I think that he should have to clean your house and your car every week until you get your kidney!
I am glad that you joined the group.

This disease has brought us all together and at least I can't complain about that.
Welcome to the Family. It sounds like you're doing well. I, too, hope you get "the call" soon! I also look forward to hearing more about you and your experiences on dialysis.
