It has been a fun filled few days:
Got the "UV Light will time out in 12 days" notice on the Pureflow Controller, call NxStage to have them send me a new controller, they say we have changed things, they will send me a memory stick with a program upgrade and a test kit so the controller can be certified for another year of use, great I say but you better send me a new Jewel Box so I can use the memory stick (present one quit working a long time ago and the tech said don't worry about it until it is needed in the future). They send the parts....
Upon receiving them, I changed out the Jewel Box as instructed, plugged in the memory stick and waited, and waited and waited, but nothing is happening, removed all power to try to get a good re-boot, plugged in the memory stick again and still nothing, called tech's again, verified that the Jewel Box was showing it "see's" the stick when I plug it in, (hard drive light next to the power light "flickers") but only for maybe 30 seconds, then the fan inside the box quits running, just like the defective one had done, told her I thought it was another bad box. they will send me a new Controller unit with the software upgrade built in. Fine. ship it soon please, I'm down to 5 days left on the UV light message.....
Was surprised to get a UPS delivery on a Saturday, but new controller and a new Pak are delivered, Put Sharon on a little early to give myself plenty of time to make the changeover,When she is done I change the controllers and install the new Pak, everything powered up fine and begin the prime of the Pak, about an hour in get a fluid leak in the Pak alarm, verified the connections were dry, so removed the Pak and the base area was full of water, soaked it all up and installed my spare new Pak, restart a new prime and when there was about 10 minutes left started to get ready to install a fresh Sak in the tub, and the sloshing water inside set off the fluid in tub alarm, dried out the tub and determined the Orange connector fitting was not seated tight enough, resumed the Pak prime and all was well once again, completed the run on the making the Dialisate, finished at 3 AM.......
Started Sharon's treatment today, using the new cartridges for the first time and after 2 hours get an "11" alarm (air in arterial), am unable to clear it so do a manual rinse back and decide to not go through any more treatment for the day, the pod and line going into the machine show definite stringy type clotting and the base of the filter has a good chunk of clot at the entrance, she received a 3500 unit dose of Heparin at the beginning and I have never seen this in almost 2 years of NxStage treatments so wondering if the new cartridges have anything to do with it?
By the way, the controller did show a message that it had a failure to communicate with the Cycler, which I believe verifies the bad Jewel Box theory of mine.
I am certainly not looking forward to what might happen tomorrow.......

Holy Mole!
I can't tell you what is going to happen next....
is it the machine or is it is a failure to communicate
or is it the Heparin?....but hoping that you pinpoint
the problem.  Excellent thread for furture or even
present NxStage users....will be standing by for the
solution.....with wishes for a positive outcome for
you and Miss Sharon..........deborah

Oooh, Tom,
Technology sometimes makes me feel like a blooming idiot! I hope you can get this straghtened out soon.

I'm also a NxStage caregiver.

We use the bags instead of Pureflow, though.

You can keep using the Pureflow after the light expires. I am making the center do the upgrade.
