American Idol Scott MacIntyre sings with new kidney

Posted on Mon, Apr. 13, 2009 04:16 PM

He was the first blind contestant on “American Idol,” but that hasn’t been the only challenge that last week’s loser, Scott MacIntyre, has faced in his life.

He revealed Monday to Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa that he’s also had a kidney transplant.

“I didn’t want to bring that up during the competition,” he said. “The blindness is obvious but I didn’t want all my challenges to weigh in the voting and now that I’m off the show, people are finding out about it.”

Scott, who suffered from kidney failure, was on emergency dialysis for two years before he found a donor. “I can remember a time when I actually didn’t have enough strength to sit and play and vocalize at the piano, so every day on 'Idol' is just a blessing for me and I am healthy now,” he said.

Scott will tour with the top 10 Idols this summer.

I liked him before, but he has my vote now!   Maybe we should invite him to Las Vegas?   :2thumbsup;

My friend sent this to me the other day:

http://www.netglimse.com/news/4329/American_Idol:_Scott_MacIntyre_talks_about_own_disease_and_sisters_condition

Apparently Scott from American Idol had kidney failure a few years back.  His sister seems to have it as well and they are both legally blind, which is interesting to me.. I have the same two things and there is no "cause" or specific disease name for it - although I'm pushing for it to be called "Kristi-awesome's disease".  Anyways, as soon as I saw it I thought of you guys and wanted to share it - he could be a good spokesman!

oops, sorry about that!  I checked to see if it had been mentioned somewhere but didn't think to look in the news article section.

I met adam lambert for my make a wish!

« Reply #6 on: August 22, 2009, 10:21:44 PM »

I met Scott on the idol's live tour. It was my make a wish to go meet adam lambert, and I met the rest of them also. I told Scott about my dialysis, and he was super sweet to me. We were both on the verge of tears. And then I hugged him, and we hugged for such a long time. But actually, he was on dialysis for 10 months only. And he got a transplant from his piano teacher's wife. and actually today is his two year kidneyversory!!!

He is such an inspiration. I'm tearing up thinking about how sweet and inspirational he was to me. he understood what I was going through. He used a cathater those ten months, and showed me his scar from the cathater. I feel like crying again. aw. =[ he was such a sweetie.
