she was 42, she had a 13 year old son, she lost her husband 2 years ago -
she went in for parathryoid surgery and died a few days later
she coded during surgery
made it out and texted another dialysis friend that her throat was sore but she made it out of surgery
then she coded twice and she is brain dead
they are waiting to unhook her until Sunday morning - I do not know why-
I knew her four 4 years and she is the patient I always gave my bone bucks too-
she had money troubles and I gave her the left over meals the gov gave when we endured IKE-
she is the one who found a snake on her dresser -
I gave her a real funny get well card and a pink stuffed dog-
I am so glad I decided to give it to her pre-surgery -
she was sick the day of surgery and had a temp
she had to come in to dialysis before she went to surgery
I could tell she was sick that morning
she had three other recent surgeries
two on her legs ---- one leg at a time and a stint in her heart
so we are wondering why didn't they give her more time to heal
she had her surgery on Fri 13, which she felt was a lucky day for her
I am going to so miss her

I am sorry Twirl. I remember you telling us that you gave a woman your bone bucks and that she had a son. You kindness when she was with you made a big difference in her life. It proves how much we need to be good to others today and not wait for tomorrow. My heart breaks for her son. So much heartache at such an early age. You are a good person, Twirl, and I am proud to know you. Special prayers tonight for you and for her family.  |

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr. 2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

That poor little boy, to lose both parents at such a young age, what he must be going through, it makes me realise how lucky I am. Twirl you were a good friend, bless you for all you did, you have a good heart and we love you. |

her son will live with an aunt in Trinity, Texas ---
after my parathyroid surgery and the side effects --- I almost died and took a turn for the worst --- and got pneumonia --- at one time my family thought I was dead --- well, anyways---- of course, I told my friends the exact truth---- one treatment when my nep doc was on rounds he told me that I should be the PR person for the surgery so the other patients would not be afraid to have it done---- I told him I have to be honest with them---- we are all we have (each other) I just told them the truth --- I do not feel better but my numbers are all improving ---- I did not tell them to get it or not to get it ---- he told me to tell them that I feel better and if I did feel better I would have told them that--- my husband notices that I do not feel better at all ---- I think my friend was not over her other surgeries and she had a fever in dialysis that morning--
guess we will never know --- she would always stop at a gas station and bring me a glass of little chipped ice ---- our unit will only give us 6 ounces-- she was a nice person

Twirl and JP - I am saddened by the loss of your friends. I am sorry that the little boy has lost his parents. Hopefully his aunt will shower him with love and he will grow up in a happy home. Twirl, I know you have a big heart. Thank you for making the world a better place. |
