Have a Van? Caregiver Tip

I am so excited!  I have been trying to find an easy way to get my Mom into a Dodge Caravan. We have tried step stools, railroad ties, 12 packs of soda, phone books and a few home made devices but everything scares her or does not help. Today I found the perfect solution. It is a spa/pool step. It is 30 in wide with two steps that are avout 11 wide. The height is even with the floor of the van and it is made out of plastic type stuff.  Here is a picture.

We turned the curved part around and placed it on the bottom so she can step a little closer to the steps. Because the steps are wider she is able to turn and sit down on the seat without fearing a fall. The steps are so lite that they are easy to handle. Her PT said she will work with her in the house with the steps so she is more comfortable with them.

A tip we learned when getting my
Mom in and out of the jeep is to put
a black plastic garbage bag (empty, of
course  ) on the seat - it makes it
very easy for the person to "slide" into
the vehicle
Was told to us by the therapist for her

Anne your idea is excellent as well.

My only tip is never armoroil your motorcycle seat. :-(
But would work well to help into a seat as well.  Just dont turn fast

I use a towel on the seat so I can pull her over. Our van seats are like velcro. The towel works just like a draw sheet on a bed.
