Male Techs....RARE???
«

This is something that used to bother me, but no longer does. I have not had a male tech in about 8 years. I always wanted a guy around to maybe talk to about chicks and sports. But now it no longer bothers me. My clinic is full of very competent female techs and nice to look at too.
How is the ratio in your clinic?

I think we have a good ratio of male to female in our unit. There is one really good looking tech in our unit. Whew. I flirt with him all the time. He is married with children and so am I so no harm.

I think the male/female tech ratio is probably consistent with the same ratio where nurses are concerned. There always seem to be way more female nurses than male.

between our centers there are about 18 female nurses, 3 male nurses, 30 female techs and 10 male techs; definitely a high ratio of women!

At my old clinic there were also a lot of young men who were just like that. Made the time go by a lot quicker.

My center seems to have more females then males on staff. I think we have 3 male techs and everyone else is female. I have a question... kind of off this topic but not really. What do you think of patients associating socially with tech or nurses? Even dating. I happen to have some experience in this as I have dated one of my techs and go out socially with a few of the staff members. The centers rules are clear that this is not suppose to happen. But I spend so much time with these people and have developed relationships with them not unlike those of co-workers. I don't see anything wrong with going out with them or even dating as long as everyone is adult about it and it does not affect the treatment you receive. Any thoughts?

Geoff I bet a lot of people have thoughts on this. Keep it in Dialysis Workers, and start a new topic titled something like "Is going out with employees from the center acceptable?" Good topic. Thanks.

At the Dialysis center I use, the ratio seems to be 50/50 on paper, but most of the techs and 2/3 rds of the nurses are male.
And almost all of them are originally from the Phillipines, only 3 out of about 15 are native English speakers. Not that their national origin or gender in any way affects their competence (or lack thereof).

Hey, as a male tech, yes we are rare. One other dude besides myself @ my clinic. And we stick together, otherwise we would be eaten alive. Ive been there longer and when he was hired, automatically we were set up to compete against each other. But everyone from the "senior tech" to human resources is female. I guess its an industry thing.

At my centre, there are only three male staff members: one tech, one nurse and the biomed tech.

The ratio of male to female techs is about two to one.
The ratio of bad techs to good is 20 to 1. I'm so disappointed in my clinic lately. I'm beginning to think they hire the medical dropouts just to save a few bucks. Nobody can stick me to save their life.

All i know is i had better experiences with the male techs than the female techs, they were more caring and they were able to cannulate me quick and with no problems. I miss you Joey, Ying, Va and Bo (but i hope not to be seeing any of you all soon)
