Hi Everyone I hope you all are having a good year so far! Okay well I am having a Stress Test on the 15th of this month and am wondering what this entails? Does it mean I am getting closer to a transplant?? Thanks Everyone!  |

A stress test is being hooked up to electrodes and you walk a treadmill for as long as you can as the increase the angle and speed until your heart rate reaches a certain level. They may also inject a drug that puts stress on your system and the treadmill test is much shorter. It is a way to monitor the condition of your heart. Just a guess. If your not having problems and they called you in for the test out of the blue then I would think it is a step closer.

It is part of the evaluation for getting on/or staying on the list. I just had my second. My next step is to meet with the head surgeon again and have him give the blessing for me to continue on the list. I wish you the best. My stress test was an injection to stimulate the heart beat of a strenuous workout. I know that some tests you are put on a treadmill. Me with one leg got the shot...Boxman

I also did it on a treadmill and they are basically measuring how long it takes your heart rate to increase with exercise and to drop back down once you stop. Regular exercise helps to build up your heart so that exertion is not too much of a strain on the heart.

(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr. 2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Year 3 for me and that means another round of all the Major tests, including the stress test. It isn't bad. I have also had the nuclear one and it isn't bad either. They just need to make sure your heart is in good shape. Good luck!

I had the chemical stress test done. They gave me some medicine in an iv and I just sat there. Most people don't have a problem with the chemical, but it gave me a major headache and made me vomit.

Stress tests are just another part of the pre requisites. It's not a big deal, like a workout on the treadmill at the gym. It does get you closer to being able to have a transplant, or to getting listed.

I had it done both ways. I prefer the treamill. The chemical one is slightly unpleasant.

I had the chemical test for two separate evaluations - they told me they typically don't do the treadmill for transplant evaluations. I didn't like it - I had a pounding headache when it was over, but in the scheme of things it was tolerable!
