I'm a Hemodialysis Patient now for a year and nine months, I have had kidney disease since 1989, when I was first diagnosed with renal failure, so I was just waiting (not really) for the day when they would totally fail.  The doctor told me in 2006, that I would need to let my family now that I needed a kidney and ask if anyone would be willing to help.  I had 2 members from my family help and my husband kindly offered too.  I was really happy about that and we went for the work up. In early 2007, my husband and my brother were both suitable although my brother was a better match, but unfortunately when push came to shub, he backed out and declined. Therefore my husband was more than delighted and gave me his kidney in March 2007. When I came round from the op, the Kidney was not working and I had to go back to surgery the same night and unfortunately it didn't work... I was in hospital for 2 months and it never worked, during that time I started hemodialysis and have been having the treatment eversince...  a year and half later I am suffering kidney rejection and  the plan  is now to the have the kidney removed, I am grateful for this because I am on steroids and  on immune suppressant drugs that I am not happy having to take daily and hopefully I will feel much better once of these drugs. Hopefully I will feel much better without these drugs. I do work 4 days a week and attend a dialysis unit 3 days a weekend in the evening, which suits me fine as it does allow me to use the day and although I have problems sleeping at night after dialysis , I'm glad it night time so if i don't sleep I'm not missing anything.. if you now what I mean, I look forward using this site much more. :welcomesign; Hilrose. Great introduction and so happy you found us. Your husband is an angel, and I'm so sorry the transplant didn't work. That really sucks. I'm so glad you found us and joined us.  There is so much information and support here and I have found it very helpful.  I'm so sorry to hear about the outcome of your transplant but as a living donor, your husband is a hero for trying.   :welcomesign;

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Welcome HilRose.  We are really glad you joined this great group. You wrote a wonderful introduction. The creator of IHD would have loved it. He liked details in the introductions.  I am sorry the transplant hasn't been successful.  You seem to have a really good attitude about life  :thumbup;  We all care for each other and give each other great support.  We also like to laugh; it is the best medicine.  So, join right in.   We've been waiting for you!  :grouphug;

Hi hillrose, your husband is a angel. he will be blessed for his gift to you. Sorry it didn't work for you but the gesture was loving. Hang on to him, he's a keeper. Glad you found this site. there is alot of info here to read and support of your fellow renal bros and sisters here to listen and for advice.

Lost vision due to retinopathy 12/2005, 30 Laser Surg 2006
ESRD diagnosed 12/2006
03/2007 Fantastic Eye Surgeon in ND got my sight back and implanted lenses in both eyes, great distance & low reading.
Gortex 4/07.  Started dialysis in ND 5/4/2007
Gortex clotted off Thanksgiving Week of 2007, was unclotted and promptly clotted off 1/2 hour later so Permacath Rt chest.
3/2008 move to NC to be close to children.
2 Step fistula, 05/08-elevated 06/08, using mid August.
Aug 5, 08, trained NxStage and Home on 9/3/2008.
Fistulagram 09/2008. In hospital 10/30/08, Bowel Obstruction.
Back to RAI-Latrobe In Center. No home hemo at this time.
GOD IS GOOD
