Have to plan for living

« on: November 02, 2008, 05:42:01 PM »

Hi,

I'm just taking a tablet known "LANTHANUM", started from 500 mg, 750 mg and now is 1000 mg for the past one month. Is there any improvement to avoid the accumulation of phrouspate in the blood?. My next blood test will be done in Dec 08.

I have stop to take the calcium as replacement of the Lanthanum.

Kindly assist and feedback. Tq.

We always need to weigh the pros and cons of each medicine we take.
Information is key.

From Shire, the maker of the phosphate binder, lanthanum carbonate :

" ... The duration of treatment exposure and time of observation in the clinical program were too short to conclude that FOSRENOL® does not affect the risk of bone fracture or mortality beyond 3 years.  While lanthanum has been shown to accumulate in the GI tract, liver, and bone in animals, the clinical significance in humans is unknown ..."
