I can't believe it has taken me this long to find this site.... I've been needing to vent for sometime as I have for the past 4 years played the part of the nice young man with nothing but a positive attitude, this has not worked and kept things brewing under the surface, it has also worked against me... Knowing I never complain they stick me by the door that has a winter draft blowing in and always put me on last as the others in my unit would scream bloody murder if they were last off or had to wait a second more than they had too.
 
  I was diagnosed when I was 18, which as you can imagine has a major impact on a young mind I went from being an athletic, outgoing people person to a guy that was angry a complete loner and introvert... I figured no one knew what I was going through other than my Dad who has had his Transplant for going on 14 years now. as bad as that sounds it got worse I had a pre-emptive transplant from my mother 4 years ago which worked 100% for the first month and then was lost to a rare bacterial infection called nocardia, this after a review was caused during the transplantation of the Kidney... something that my mother or I ever really got over. So for the past 4 years I have been on Hemo - Home for two years and now two years at the Bayshore clinic in Brockville, ON.. Transferring out to Ottawa was the best move I have made to date as my new nehprologist is fantatsic and I have just been listed on the active transplant list.... My wife and I are also expecting our first little one in September which has completely changed my view on life... Everything is looking up and I seem to be coming out from under my Cloud, starting my new or second life just as I'm coming into my late 20's.

Welcome guy! I know what you mean as when I was at the hospital unit they said I was the easiest and didn't complain like everyone else did. I was like, "I am new and didn't know I should complain..."

Now that I am at the Self Care unit in my city they don't seem to appreciate my niceness because it seems everyone at this unit is quiet and easy going But if we are freezing they don't care and at this unit they are supposed to teach us how to set up our machines and all .. and they never do (I have been there since Dec).

But it does seem true .. the squeaky wheel gets the most grease!


I also was diagnosed very young (younger than you) and so I know how hard it can be on someone young I also live in ON but south of you

One nephrologist (who was also a kidney patient) told me, "The healthiest kidney patient is the one who gives the ulcers, not gets the ulcers."

That being said, we can all learn a lot from each other.

I'm glad you finally found us (our site is only 1 year old), how may I ask did you find us? I was 21 when I was diagnosed, however the docs told me my labs were so high I needed dialysis years ago. But I wanted to welcome you and as you will see on this site some people are negative and some people are positive, so I think you'll fit right in. Rant away, vent about something that pisses you off. Or help someone that is going through something you have already overcome.

I see you are going to be a dad soon. Man I'll tell my son (who is 9) gives me the strength and the courage to fight, read my bio and you will know what I am talking about. I absolutely LOVE being a dad, it is hard at times, but it is so rewarding.

Welcome to our community.  I am very glad that you found us.  Feel free to vent when you feel like it.  You have a lot of reading to do - we now have nearly 12,000 posts!  Take your time and look through.  There is much helpful information here.  But I don't only want you to read - post, as well.  Give us your take on things.
So happy to hear of your little one.  So we will be with you as you go through this new experience.  Your little one already has a large community of caring aunties and uncles.

I have been told the closest they can come to labeling our family's Disease is a rare form of Polycystic disease, which exists only in the Brunner blood line, however at this point in time it's a 50-50 split as to who is a donor and who is a recipient.which has worked well for most in the Fam.
