Great picture!  Southyard, you look great!  Hope you two had a wonderful visit.

Southyard, what is your dog's name?  He is a real beauty.  We are a bunch of dog lovers here!  I hope you will share some of your stories with us.  Especially, how to survive tough times.  We need all the advice we can get.

Sluff, there is such a good heart inside of you.  No wonder your son is such a sweetie!  Just like his Dad!

Two good-looking fellas there!  I wish I could be sitting right there between you two (of course, you'd have to scoot over just a tad to get me in there).  I'd love to hear all the stories Southyard has to tell.......Absolutely gorgeous dog!!

My dodg name is Fontana. Why that I do not know but I have never changed a dogs namethat I adopted

She came into our life after we had to put Samantha down the day after thanksgiving 2006. Shae had a cancerous groth in the mouth, abot 8 that nite she let out one big howl and headed for the door.  Outside she urped out the groth and considerable blood.  I( called my son to drive us to the vet as I was to shookup.  Samantha sat in the backseat quitly for the 14 mile drive in the rain.  When I explained I wanted her put down the vet was called out to the gerieving room.  Son had to leave like I did when we put his dog down 15 years earlierI was invited to stay with her will being euthinized  but could not face it.

I immeadiatly decided another dog was coming into our life.  Local shelters (3 of them)turned us down when I asked for a large dog  They stated I was to old for a big dog and should get a poodle or such. Afew  days later on Kenosha Safe Harbor site  Fonties picture was featured.  We went don the next day and agreed she was fo us.  Fterchecking a hold hab been put on her  for anothers family approval.  Chcked out 2 more shelters and started home.  Got within a mile of home and the phone rang  We could have fontana.  The van did a 180 and we returned, arriving 10 minutes before closing.  Needless to say they accomidated us and stayed to cmplete the deal.  The trip home was a noisy one with a loud dog and four happy people.  After giving her some water and treats we left her in the kitchen to sttle dowm.  At abt 8 DW opened the gat and she has had the run of the house ever since. We have never had any accidentsor such.  Other than a few piles in the van when TYM could not stop to let her out. Those were ayear ago or so.  Afterhaving to put or old cat ,18 yrs, down due to health problems  daughter and DW adopted a black 4 month old kitten.  They bonded wonderfully with the first nite both sleeping on Fontys bed.  now Angel is full grown and does her own thing

We also have a 3rd pet called Freddy. Hes a turtle. Swims in his own 30 gallon tank.  He was about 1 1/2 inches when Tym found hin in the drive on a 90 degree day Now 6 inched after shedding a few shells.  Mary likes to feed him worms and small fish  . He also likes to bite her finger and be lifted out of the water.  The cat sits and watches him swim and has never9that we have seen tried to catch him

Fontana is a lucky dog to be adopted by you.  We lost our 15 yr old dog last week and my house seems very empty right now.  Your story was nice to read and I felt like we were right there in that van making the u-turn to pick up Fontana.  Thanks for sharing how Fontana adopted YOU!
