Hi there. I'd like to introduce myself:

2.5 years ago I was an otherwise healthy 46 year old experiencing recent trouble with my vision, went to an eye doctor who sent me to a specialist. He quickly determined that my BP was through the roof (220/140), ended up at GP who sent me to the ER where they told me that my kidneys were trashed (eGFR 10).

After a week in the hospital I was sent home with a whack of BP meds and an appointment with a nephrologist.

The last six months I have been feeling better with much more energy. Was going for long daily walks and playing hockey twice a week. Fluid in legs virtually disappeared but alas these seems to have coincided with my kidneys going south.

EGFR in May was 11, 10 in June, 9 in July, 8 in August and down to 6 at the end of September.

Had Fistula surgery October 1st.

Looks like dialysis is in my immediate future...

Welcome to IHD!

You have ahd a serious wake-up call.  Fortunate you are in decent physical shape or it would have been far worse.

Study up on the Renal Diet.  Learning how to eat much much healthier is critical not only for keeping what little kidney function you have remaining, but also helps general whole body health as well.

Sadly, fluid control is necessary.  Learning how to balance thirst with only a very limited fluid intake isn't so easy.  It takes a LOT of patience.  Sugarless candies, breathe mints, even a small smooth rock.  A peddle in the mouth will stimulate saliva glands and help keep the mouth, tongue, and throat soothed somewhat.  Learned that in survival training, US Army 1972. It's hard to forget stupid stuff drilled into your head.  But it kept me alive.

Take Care,
