If you started PD with drain pain, how long did it take before you no longer experienced pain? A week? Two weeks? A month? Or was it permanent? I've seen a bunch of messages that say it goes away with time, and some say that for some people it always hurts. I seem to have good nights and bad night and am just trying to set my expectations.

When I first started PD, I was doing manuals. During training I had drain pain like you wouldn't believe. It was so intense that I was afraid I would have to go over to Hemo and give up on PD. Fortunately, it eased up after the first week and by the second week I was not feeling any pain at all. I do still have an occasional run in with it, but when I do I pinch or clamp off my drain line and jiggle a bit to move the catheter end around and break the suction it has developed to my peritoneum. Once I got the method down, I can break it almost immediately.

Good luck!

 :bump;

This my 3rd time on PD but first issue with drain pain. Feels like a tiny crab is in there pinching me to make sure I'm paying attention. Plus side is it normally happens when I'm dry, down side, it hurts  >:(

Deanne, did yours stop?

Being normal is not necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage. -- from the movie Practical Magic
