Hi Everyone,

My is TJ.  My husband has been battling with CKD for several years and now we are facing dialysis ( within 4-6 months).
After a brief bout of anger over his failure to properly care for himself during stages 1-4 of CKD, :Kit n Stik;  I'm not as traumatized as I thought I'd be. 

Plus the new reality has lit a fire under his butt and he's actually trying to get and stay healthy.  Nothing like trying to qualify for an organ to keep you motivated.

All in all I'm a roll with the punches type of person and I'm glad this place is here to help teach me when to duck.

Thanks to the posts on IHD skipped in center and began NxStage 11/12
Still has 70 lbs to lose before going on donor list.

Welcome TJ (Carly??).   We all find IHD when and how we need to.  Hope he takes care of himself...

1991 diagnosed PKD (kidneys, liver)
2010 kidneys at 35% (left 2x size)
2011 kidneys at 30% (left 2x size)

Hi TJ, you are funny!   :rofl;   I'm so glad you found us.  I'm sure this site will help you stay on your feet.

I welcome your husband too.  He may need to vent once in a while.  We are here to listen.

Thanks for the warm welcome.    Thankfully with today's technology and some common sense a person can live a full life on dialysis.

My grandmother was on dialysis in the 80's and man was that brutal to see as a kid.  Comparatively speaking that little teeny tiny NxStage looks like it'll fit on the back of my bicycle.   So I think we'll be OK.  That is once I get over my initial OMG OMG OMG moment. :o

My husband being the dork he his, actually said that he'd rather do in-center just so I wouldn't have to worry.  But he was really asking if I'd be OK with him doing with HHD.  If I'd just said OK to in-center that would've been it, he was giving me an out because I've been so angry.

I admit I'm angry because he's had 10 years to get his weight and blood pressure under control.  I've done everything short of pulling a weapon to get him to take better care of himself but no dice.  Now that the BIG D is near, he's reformed but better late than never.

However I still find it funny that after 15 years of marriage he can still be so clueless. No matter how angry I get, he should know that I'd help him wash his kidneys in a cup if that what he needed me to do.

But I guess we all need a little reassurance from time to time.
