Approved for transplant
«
on:
June 27, 2011, 11:41:23 AM »
I'm approved! I'm not officially listed yet because I have a couple of things they want done, but they said that since my to-do list is very short and not complicated, they're willing to start talking to my potential donors now. I'm CMV- and blood type A+. My PRA is at 0.
They said that since I'm so healthy, they'll consider a CMV+ donor. I really hope my sister is CMV-. I know already that her blood type is A+. She made a point of bragging about it last week, equating it to her grades in school.

That's fantastic! How wonderful that you have some live donors lined up!!

Great News Deanne. I also hope you don't get CMV. I was CMV- and donor was positive which equaled bad experience for me.

With blood A, even without a living donor, you should not wait for too long to get a kidney at Portland. Good luck.

Thanks! I had a nice surprise yesterday. My brother emailed and offered to donate as well (so all three of my siblings have now offered). I know he won't qualify, but the fact that he offered....! He has/had prostate cancer. He's refused to follow up after treatment and no one, including him, knows if he's cancer-free. If he wants to help and can't donate, he might be a good candidate for coming out to babysit me after the transplant. He & his wife are both disabled/unable to work, but still very mobile.

D are you on the transplant waiting list as well? That is great your siblings have stepped up to get tested. Again I really hope it works out and someone is a match!! Siblings are the best part of my family!!!
About the CMV thing...my donor was + and I was - but I never had any problems with it. I was on a antiviral medication the entire time to make sure to keep it suspressed. (This was with my first transplant)
Anyway keep us updated on the process!!
