Down the river with a cycler -
NxStage conquers the Rogue
By Bill Peckham
The trip was a 100% success. The only disappointment was that one of the dialyzors, Jim, wasn't able to go due to illness in the days before the start. We were able to fill Jim's two spots at the last minute; Megan and Sasha didn't know they were going until three days before they found themselves running rapids on the Rogue. Dan and Connie drove in from Salt Lake City on Sunday, both he and I dialyzed the night.....

Dan who was the other dialyzor on the trip down the Rogue trip put together this video together for the Las Vegas NxStage meeting earlier this month - it's about 15 minutes

And there is KidneyTalk about the trip posted too

Great video and KidneyTalk Bill. You and Dan really pushed the envelope and broke it with your trip down the Rogue.

WOW!! how increadably encouraging is that!! For me, it takes the 'sting' out of dialysis hearing how it's just a part of your lives not your LIFE... That was great to see. Im excited to get into the NxStage club
(wow, thats kinda weard isnt it..lol) I mean, if we gotta dialysise, and it works for us, we're going to be some people with more freedome. So glad you all share these things.. THANKS :-)

Very nice trip. We almost got to find out if Dialysis Dan floats at 4:04 in the video; very impressive
We didn't get to find out whether the NxStage cycler and hard case floats though
Most NxStage users could use the help of that guy loading the case into the raft to move their NxStage cycler and supplies, he made it looked easy.

End of September 2010: after twelve days of training, we were asked to start dialyzing on our own at home, reluctantly, we agreed.
If you are on HD, did you know that Rapid fluid removal (UF = ultrafiltration) during dialysis is associated with cardiovascular morbidity?

We follow a modified version: UF limit = (weight in kg) * 10 ml/kg/hr * (130 - age)/100
How do you know you are getting sufficient hemodialysis? Know your HDP! Scribner, B. H. and D. G. Oreopoulos (2002). "The Hemodialysis Product (HDP): A Better Index of Dialysis Adequacy than Kt/V." Dialysis & Transplantation 31(1).
