So much for smooth sailing...  I had to get an emergency chest cath put in this afternoon because I had a reaction to the Tacro (something to do with the red blood cells).  Have to have several treatments of blood cleanising starting in the morning (calcium levels are too low to start the treatments tonight).  The official term escapes me at this moment as I have been through alot today as this is life threatening.  Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Started HD 10/6/10
Transplanted 1/6/11 (Chain Transplant My altruistic donor was  "Becky from Chicago" , and DH Mike donated on my behalf and the chain continued...)

How often are they monitoring your Tacrolimus?
Be sure to ask for you lab slips and follow along.
We know immunos can be toxic if not carefully followed early on.
I hope you come through this just fine.

Neuropathy in legs age 10

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Diagnosed with ESRD June 29, 1999
1st Dialysis - July 4, 1999
Last Dialysis - December 2, 2000

Kidney and Pancreas Transplant - December 3, 2000

I was taken off of Tarcro and put on Cyclosporine as soon as they figured out what was happening, but it messed my hemocrit levels up pretty good.  I had to have Plasmapheresis treatments and two blood transfusions because of the Tacro.  I am just glad they caught the problem as soon as they did!

The official diagnosis was "probable TTP/HUS".  I will be keeping the chest cath for at least another month as I will continuing the Plasmapheresis treatments.  Scary stuff.

That is scary indeed for a number of reasons, not the least of which that it could damage your kidney transplant if it went on too long.

Let's hope that this is just a temporary setback and that once you're past this, things will be smooth sailing from then on.
