Hi everybody! I'm new to this site, although I have come across it a few times, I have never made my introduction. My name is Barb and I'm 56 years old and live in Florida. I was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy about 13 years ago.My GFR at the time was about 17. I felt fine and was able to work as a kindergarten teacher with no problems. In 2007, I had a kidney transplant which was removed the next day because of clotting. (My sister had donated her kidney to me.) I had never been on dialysis to that point. I still felt pretty good even after the failed transplant.  In October 2009, my doctor and I felt it was time to start dialysis because my GFR was about 6, even though I still felt good. It was a hard decision to make. So I had the pertioneal access put in and have been on PD since then. I have finally gotten use to the routine and the time I need to do what I have to do each night and each afternoon. I'm still waiting for a kidney. I actually had to go to the transplant center for an update. They say I'm getting close to the top!
I think this site is a great support for us, and I hope to come back often! :waving;

Glad you decided to introduce yourself Barb. Your story is very encouraging also. I am at GFR of 25 for over a year now, and hope it continues until I drop dead by being hit by a truck or something else easy. JK!!! So, anyways,   :welcomesign; to IHD,

Hi Barb and I'm so glad you joined.  What a disappointment that your sister's kidney clotted.  I would like to know more about what they said happened.  Is that common?

Hope you enjoy the site.

They said it happens in about 1 in 200 cases. They don't really know why it happens. It was a great disappointment for me and my sister.
